Wine, bubbles and cocktails

When I met Jon, he mainly drank beer and occasionally a glass of wine. But after our first trip to my godmother in France, he was completely ‘ruined’: from that moment on, his taste had received a significant upgrade and we really couldn't order a simple house wine from the menu anymore. Everything described as ‘buttery, oak-aged, and with a long finish’ sounds like music to the ears, but unfortunately, those are usually the most expensive bottles on the menu...

You understand: when selecting our wines for the wedding, I was worried that our entire budget would be blown because the couple wanted to serve a Barolo from 2010 with the second course. But luckily, I found all kinds of beautiful Italian wines at wijnvoordeel.nl for very affordable prices. The neighbors must have thought we were developing a serious drinking problem: three times, boxes full of test wines and bubbles were delivered!

Now I am blessed with a real wine connoisseur as a stepfather, so we immediately enlisted his help in making the right wine choices. Three evenings and 36 bottles (plus three hangovers...) later, we finally found our perfect wedding wines. Since I can drink bubbles anytime and anywhere, we have three different types for the weekend. One of my favorite discoveries was the Goldfish Pink Sparkling Rosé and the Villa Trevi Prosecco.

As for the wedding cocktail, our choice was quickly made: we are both extreme fans of Hendrick’s Gin and since I am addicted to everything with rose flavor, we will make a personalized Hendrick’s Gin-Tonic with ‘a hint of roses’ for the party. During Taste Amsterdam, I visited the Hendrick’s Secret Garden and immediately got some ideas for the decoration of the cocktail bar. But I won't reveal too much yet; you will really have to wait for the after photos. One thing is for sure: our guests won't have to stand dry for a second. Note to self: stock up on enough Acqua Panna and San Pellegrino before everyone starts wobbling on their legs after lunch...
