Summer, when does it start for you?
‘Yes, it has officially started this week. Even though I am still working hard, THESE are the temperatures I live for. THESE are the days that keep me going in the winter. Everything is so nice, cheerful, and light in the summer. But the best part of this summery weather is of course that you can legally sip liters of white wine on a terrace. We can talk about it for a long or short time together, but it is so.’
And what is going to happen this summer? Vacation?
‘On August 6th, hold on tight, we are going to our mobile home in Bakkum. Yes, I can't make anything else of it. But it is really very nice there and there are all kinds of fun, creative, cool people at this campsite. And since I am also incredibly fun and creative, I feel very much at home there.’
Where should everyone go this summer?
‘I would say: Formentera, the undiscovered gem of the Balearics. It is the small, oh so beautiful sister of Ibiza with the most fantastic photo light ever. Oh, and the beaches have an enormous tropical vibe and appearance: the water is crystal clear, the sand is pure white. Never has a tropical island been so close. What does your ideal vacation day look like?
‘Staying and having breakfast at Atzaro, a super luxurious agriturismo in Ibiza, then sunbathing on the deck of a boat that takes me to Formentera, then having lunch with a fine white wine at Juan y Andrea in Formentera (where you see the most ridiculous boats and the richest people docking), then of course cooling off in the sea, sunbathing a bit more and then: sailing back to my divine hotel in Ibiza + the same shower. From 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM I am busy showering and putting on makeup and trying on dresses and then we are of course going out for dinner and cocktails with a taxi. Again in Ibizaaaaa the best.’
What’s your summer drink?
‘A rich Chardonnay, a nice Meursault or a mojito. Oh, and at nineties parties I naturally drink Malibu-cola. And I am a big fan of whiskey. Just writing down all those drinks makes me hungry, which is bad.’
And your favorite meal on a warm day?
‘A salad with grilled vegetables and goat cheese. Gazpacho. Fresh sushi. But also Flemish fries with Belgian mayonnaise. Because even though it is scorching hot, I always crave Flemish fries with Belgian mayonnaise. Especially when they come from Vleminckx in Voetboogstraat 33 in Amsterdam.’
What are you reading and listening to this summer?
‘I am captivated by the divine song Thinking About It (Let It Go), by the relatively unknown Israeli Nathan Goshen – and then the special KVR Remix. Where KVR stands for the very young Koen van Ravensberg, who made this sublime remix. It is a huge hit on the way, believe me.’
What is your way too expensive summer must-have?
‘I don't even find it that extremely expensive, but I think I need to save up for it: this very thick Miu Miu sunglasses. I mean, how wonderfully nineties are these glasses? Well? Those pink heart-shaped lenses! That gold! That crazy bend in the arms! I find myself completely stuck on it, sorry. Oh, and I want this dark red MCM Starck Medium backpack, because my laptop fits in it. And nice laptop bags are quite a rarity. So I say: this is a great opportunity and I will seize that opportunity.’
