Drinking whisky is just so incredibly #goals
I actually don't remember when I had my first glass of whisky. Yes, sorry, it would have been really super poetic to start with that, but it's the truth, and I am basically a big proponent of the truth. Unless it's about pressing matters like my weight or my bank balance but those are suddenly two other subjects. Where do I get them from, huh? It drives me crazy sometimes too. What it comes down to is this: since I drank whisky for the first time, I have been drinking whisky. Or whiskey. Because the one from Scotland and Canada is spelled with just a -y, and the one from the US and Ireland with -ey (in the Netherlands, we generally stick to the Scottish spelling).
Well, I am a fan. Admittedly, you have to learn to drink it, because it's strong stuff. But then you know: whisky is ridiculously delicious. And cinematic too. Especially when you drink it from those heavy, processed crystal glasses (tumblers). Seriously, those look ridiculously chic, it's not normal.*
Which whisky do I prefer? Well. Preferably a Scottish single malt (whiskey from one distillery) with smoky and/or medicinal flavor. As pure as possible in any case. I don't care that some people think I'm crazy in my head, and I also don't care that some people think whisky is an old, fat man's drink. I will drink whisky this summer, and that's that, and nothing else. I will drink it on the terrace, in the bar, in the evening at the beach by the fire pit and on the veranda of my mobile home at camping Bakkum. By the way, that's really the absolute best place ever for whisky, thanks to all the candlesticks and chandeliers with dripping candles and long-haired ruggedly attractive men (CROSS OUT) sheep skins. And I'm really not the only one who thinks that, because I'm really receiving people there all the time who also want whisky.
”And tell me if I'm wrong, but I think you also enjoy a refined purchase from time to time.”
Moreover, there are cautious sounds from the field that whisky is a thing. At least among people with a refined taste. People (woman, man, young, old, but what is old) who love good food, coffee, red wine, and leather bags. Who can appreciate a Gucci shoe. Who love a nice watch. A fine hotel. And tell me if I'm wrong, but I think you also enjoy a refined purchase from time to time. Look, whisky may not become the new gin and tonic, but it is a THING in the making. In all sorts of forms too. Right now, for example, you see that more and more cocktails are being made with American Rye whiskey or Scottish whiskey, but whiskey in its pure form is also on the rise. From this trend report from Misset Horeca, you can already gather a bit of that.
Really, just pay attention. This summer you – okay, we'll give it some time – this autumn you will be freaking out with a glass of whisky in hand about how delicious it is. And of course, you will loudly say that Renske was extremely right.
* Actually, you should only use tumblers for a whiskey on the rocks. For a pure one, you need a Glencairn glass (with a kind of belly), because of the flavor experience. But my eye wants something too. And you always have to leave something for shopping.
