WHY HAVING A FREEZER IS SUPER NICE

And the rules

I am a fan of my freezer. And I am also a fan of some products from the freezer in the supermarket. Spinach for example, or red fruits. They are frozen immediately after picking, so super fresh. I also always have a large bag of shrimp, red peppers, and bananas in my freezer. A freezer is very handy in case you are too busy to go grocery shopping or if you have made too much food and want to save some. Freezing stops the multiplication of bacteria in your food. This makes your food last much longer. Very handy indeed. I will give you a few more tips to ‘take everything out of your freezer’.

  • Put your food in Tupperware containers (or freezer bags) in the freezer and stick a small sticker on it with the date when you put the container in.
  • Do not put warm things in the freezer. Let them cool down first.
  • If you have frozen something and let it thaw, you should not refreeze it. The bacteria multiply incredibly fast then.
  • Vegetables that contain a lot of water like lettuce, tomato, and cucumber are better not frozen. During thawing, the vegetable releases so much water that there is nothing left.
  • Try to freeze products as fresh as possible. Although freezing is a handy way to keep products longer, it does not make the ingredients any fresher.
  • Be careful with raw eggs, yogurt, and milk. I would not freeze these products, as they can curdle when thawing. You don't want that.
  • For bread and dairy products, a maximum of three months applies, and for vegetables, this depends on the type: six to twelve months. As for fruit, depending on the type of fruit, you can leave it in the freezer for eight to twelve months.
