Fun & Famous

Miljuschka and I met for the first time in St. Tropez during a press trip from Danie Bles. There it was immediately thick as thieves, because start talking about hospitality, cooking, food and everything related to it and I can't stop talking. Miljuschka has that too.

Today we had a cup of tea and a croissant at Jefferson, the “local pub” of the Amayzine editorial team, because just around the corner, and I asked her about her favorite restaurant and whether she really eats a piece of cheesecake every day, yes or no.

Where in the world is your favorite restaurant?

‘Café Bern in Amsterdam where you eat the best kaassoufflé. It has been recently renovated and I have to get used to it a bit. It was a real brown café (which goes with kaassoufflé and steaks, melted in herb butter), but now it’s a bit cleaner. Different tables and a clean ceiling and so on. The staff is incredibly friendly and the food is always delicious and always the same.’

‘It can be anyone.

‘I’m thinking about chefs, but actually they are not that fun to sit at the table with. I am often compared to Nigella Lawson, so I like to sit with her. I wonder if it’s just a concept and a brand or if she is really a sweet mom who spoils you nicely. With the condition that she cooks for me of course.’

Where in a restaurant do you prefer to sit?

‘I prefer to sit with my back to the wall, then I can see the kitchen and the door. I am an observer, I keep everything in sight.’

What do you always hope is on a menu?

‘I have a weakness for escargots. Steak tartare is also nice and actually cheesecake too. By the way, my absolute favorite is liver with bacon and onions, but that is really nowhere on the menu anymore. I usually order something I have never eaten before, I want to taste everything.’

Do you eat cheesecake every day?

‘Yes, I’m afraid so. But I also have to test a lot, you know.’

Do you find your way on the wine list?

‘My father forced me to drink wine at a young age, well diluted with water of course. He wanted me to have knowledge of wine, so I developed a bit of aversion to it, but I do know what I like. At the top of the list is Barolo, I prefer red.’

Starter or dessert?

‘Preferably six appetizers and one dessert. I don’t really need a main course. I mainly just want to be able to taste a lot. I usually order all the appetizers from the menu.’

What fun project are you currently working on?

‘There’s a new program on 24Kitchen called Feestfood, I have become the new food face of RTL Boulevard and my new cookbook is on its way.’
