MARIA KOOISTRA

On Thursday, July 14, you will once again say ‘oh’, ‘aaah’, ‘I want that’ and ‘where can I order?’ when you see the new jewelry that Maria Kooistra will present. She has come up with something brilliant again with her clever little head. Before that happens, it's still two weeks of hard work. Or maybe with candles on the yoga mat?

Maria, is everything under control for this month or does your to-do list still fit on a fresh toilet roll?

‘Yes, I have everything under control. I have gathered such a good team around me. That brings so much peace. I can't wait to get started!’

Are you still doing all that with a glass in sight? After all, it's Friday and it's definitely time for drinks.

‘It might not be very Amayzines to say this, but I am suddenly so done with all that drinking. Maybe it's the age, but I can't handle it well anymore. And how nice is it to wake up with a clear head and be full of energy all day!’

I don't know what it is, but with you, I want to know what you're drinking and in what kind of glass it is. For the past two weeks, I've had a glass obsession and I suspect something vintage and beautiful with you...

‘Haha. I also have a glass obsession. And an antique drinks cabinet doesn't look out of place in any interior. Do you know where you can find scandalously beautiful crystal? On the website www.1stdibs.com. Shamelessly expensive, but use it for inspiration. And then buy the same thing at a French antique market for a fraction of the price.’

And now a little about your new babies. How did you come up with the idea?

‘Is it silly if I don't tell you what it is yet? I can tell you a bit about the reason. My mother passed away last year and with the loss of her, I tried to come up with something to hold on to my childhood a little bit. What was my dearest childhood memory? What object catapults me back to the earliest years of my youth? It turned out to be something universal. And, I really consider this a gift from my mother from the other side, it turned out that no one offers anything similar. Coincidence does not exist. My new brand is a tribute to my mother who managed to pull this off, post mortem.’

Then a little about Friday. It's the name of the column after all. What does this evening look like?

‘The evening will be spent at EYE. The documentary ‘Together’ in which my daughter and her best friend are followed by documentary maker Ava Meijer premiered there this week. A loving and disillusioning document about friendship and love. The documentary will be shown all weekend.’

And what about tomorrow? What kind of Saturday will it be? What does a typical Saturday look like in casa Kooistra? Or is there no pattern in the Saturdays?.

‘I have Saturdays with and Saturdays without kids and they differ quite a bit from each other. This weekend I am childless and I start my Saturday with a lunch with friends at the Kröller-Müller. After that, I drive to my adopted parents Nathan and Jenine. I dive into the studio with Nathan for his new photography project The Naked Eye.’

Just imagine that you have all the time and all the money in the world. And oh yes, that time difference doesn't exist and you could hop from Hong Kong to New York in a second. What would your favorite weekend look like?

‘I would first go to Italy this weekend to see Christo's project . He has built a three-kilometer-long promenade over the water. I even considered booking a last-minute trip, but practical objections like time and money held me back. What a shame. For the adventurous among you: you can drive there in ten hours! Go! And send me a message, then I'll come along. After that, I get a private concert from Ludovico Einaudi at the North Pole (where he played last week on an ice floe to draw attention to the protection of this area). The rest of the weekend, I visit all the chefs from the Netflix series Chef's Table. And my friend Sherrie in New York, because she just became a mother of a cloud of a daughter and I am so proud of her.’

How does your Sunday look? Does it feel different than Saturday?

‘Sundays are lazy and nice and Etta James sings ‘Sunday kind of love’.

Do you have time to read a book for example? Which one, which one, which one?

‘I recently ordered a stack at The American Book Centre and I'm going to pick it up soon. And really, I have no idea what I ordered, so it's going to be a surprise package.’

Finally. Monday. What time do you jump out of bed?

‘Seven o'clock. I have a trial subscription at a really nice local gym next week and then I get my fat measurement. You'd better know what you're dealing with, right?’
