MARIE-CLAIRE IN MALIBU

Marie-Claire Witlox resides with her husband (Jeroen van Koningsbrugge) and children in Malibu. For half a year, but still. Every week, Marie-Claire writes about botox doctors, celebrity workouts, and now about famous volunteers.

If you live in Malibu, it shouldn't be unthinkable that you in the supermarket are standing behind, let's say, Gwyneth Paltrow in line. Many people in the Netherlands also ask: ‘So? Have you run into any stars yet?’ The answer is ‘No’. Whether it's because I'm not focused on that at all or I don't recognize them, I haven't seen one yet. Of course, I hear a lot of stories. One of my best friends was here at the birthday party of Robert Downey Jr.'s son because her daughter is the best friend of his son Exton. There were of course many stars, including Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom. But I had no idea that was world news. I read that back in the Dutch newspaper.

Every week, like many mothers at school, I do volunteer work with the children. On Thursdays, I help together with Sonny's mother, one of Salomon's new friends, at the drawing class. We chatted a bit and she told me after my question: ‘So what do you do?’ very kindly with a British accent that she used to be a model. She invited us to come play quickly. The week after, she wasn't there. The teacher said she had a wedding and was getting married again on Valentine's Day. By then, I had already had a lot of email contact with her about the playdate and was unsure whether to send a congratulation.

On Valentine's Day, we looked up in the sky and saw a plane leaving a beautiful trail with the letters ‘J❤️M’. Completely happy, I flew into Jeroen's arms and thanked him for the romantic gift. Just a joke, of course, because it was pure coincidence. But what turned out; it was the new husband of the mother at school who wanted to have ‘J❤️L’ written for her very sweetly. The pilot made a mistake and wrote, super fun for me, an M. Thank you, Liberty. I read in the Dutch newspaper who you are. Sorry I didn't recognize you. I hope you had a beautiful wedding. I'll see you Thursday at school for the drawing class.
