RARE THINGS WE DID WITH OUR MAKE-UP IN THE NINETIES

Part 1: Face make-up

You should know; I was crazy about the Spice Girls back then. Still am. But back then I actually totally immersed myself in everything related to girl bands, and I’m mainly talking about the looks. Why I didn’t stick to my mother’s styling skills (what’s wrong with navy dresses, blue sweaters, and gray tights?) is still a mystery to me. Because now I’m stuck with photos from back then where I look like a fool and where I still feel utterly embarrassed every time I see them. But anyway. You probably recognize it. These weird things we did (well actually I did, but I hope for some allies) in the nineties. Divided into two posts, because once I started typing, I just couldn’t stop. Today the make-up department, tomorrow the hair department.

1. Silver eyeshadow

I thought it was pretty cool. At Hema they had those small pots of eyeshadow (that you could stack) and there was the color silver in between. I didn’t use it as a subtle shimmer, no, my eyelids were just totally dipped in that silver pot. But I also saw friends with metallic pink, green, and metallic blue, so it could always be worse.

2. Over-plucked brows

From eyebrows was simply not an option. I saw the trend of incredibly chic beautiful plucks above the eyes and I wanted that too. So I enthusiastically went to work with my tweezers. Wow. I’m still trying to limit the damage.

3. Blue eyeshadow

I have blue eyes and I thought it would be very nice to emphasize that with the same color eyeshadow. Now I know better.

4. Blue mascara

I should have kept that one in. Because that’s still possible. Dior, Chanel, Sisley; they all have a blue mascara in their range. Only back then I thought I had to put everything in blue mascara. Now I know that you should only touch the tips of your lashes.

5. Lipliners

Lipliners were supposed to make your lips look bigger. And if you did that in a different color, it only emphasized it. Exactly.

Enjoying? More tomorrow. Because you can bet that you also put your hair in the waffle iron and had streaks of purple and blue hair.
