RENSKE WANTS TO SING IN A CHOIR AND THIS IS WHY

True fans won't be surprised: I was almost a famous singer. Think of someone of Adele-like quality, or maybe even a kind of Beyoncé with iconic sweaters and statements, because you might not believe it, but all my statements are actually quite iconic.

Unfortunately, I have to disappoint you. So far, there has been no sign of a major breakthrough. Every time I take singing lessons somewhere, every time I enthusiastically sign up for a band, we start off well, grand, and captivating. Then people find that I have an extraordinarily special voice – sometimes they even say ‘interesting’ three times in a row – and then I'm promised golden mountains. At least I get to come back the following week, and they give me all sorts of important exercises. Oh, and they naturally find me very attractive anyway. In any case, time and again I seem to have everything at first glance that a star needs to become a star. And time and again I come up with all sorts of artist names for myself.

However, after about three weeks, it always falls apart, because then people suddenly want me to sing songs where you also have to sing high. And it seems that my voice doesn't sound so good anymore? And it also seems that I (then) sing with quite a lot of air in my voice? As if I'm also pushing out a whole lot of air along with my voice?? Very strange.

“That's what I say: now I just need to find a suitable choir.”

The big question is: how now further? Well, I have determined that I can now do three things. I can search for the right singing coach, the right band, or of course try to sing myself into The Voice of Holland it, but my time is precious. The time is NOW people, the time is NOW, I live in the now, completely according to the trend, I need to make it happen NOW.

And so I have decided that I will join a choir. I am aware that this may not necessarily be easier than singing solo, that you technically secretly have to be very good to be able to ‘keep up’ with everything the choir does or expects from you. But... I can certainly try if this suits me better, right?

Singing (in a choir) is moreover good for your health: your breathing, your posture, and your immune system get a boost, and singing also lowers the stress hormone cortisol. Research even shows that learning new songs is good for your memory, and that singing in a group – even without an audience – activates the brain's reward system. Our social connections and activities also play a major role in maintaining good health. And... (yes, we're still going) after you have sung, you feel happier and more positive due to the production of dopamine, endorphins, and serotonin.

That's what I say: now I just need to find a suitable choir. Who has the golden tip?
