SHOP FOR YOUR NEW JOB

Paris-moc-F16-212

It’s true, just ten more nights of sleep and I get to spend Monday to Thursday and Friday off in the Amayzinese. I always walked into the editorial office only after everyone was already sniffing around the bottle, yep: Friday. But in January I get five whole days and that brings me to a terrible problem. Because for that Friday I picked out some semi-nice things from my closet and with a sip or two I could get away with it, but now I have to pull that off five times over.

‘Shopping is practically your job, right?’ Uuhm, yes (and I also write, just so you know). But that does put the pressure on. You won’t believe your eyes what the editorial team shows up in every morning. Each with her wedgie jeans and oversized sweater, Simone in an extremely charming skirt, Mrs. Balenciaga, high-heeled Kiek, your shopping editor Lil (I don’t need to explain that to you, right?) and of course MAY-BRITT MOBACH. You know, the stylishness that looks effortless (and that she doesn’t help three other pretty girls get up for school). And me. Yes, that’s where the trouble starts, because my wardrobe is screaming for a makeover.

I have one pair of jeans that I live in (you saw her in the Look of the Day), a bomber jacket that I want to marry (you saw that one too) and some boring shirts. That’s it. No, of course that’s not all of it, but that’s how it feels. You don’t want to make an entrance with that on your first morning or in that first week and that’s why you need to score at least five outfits when you start that new job (I’ve been telling myself that for a week now). And those outfits need to be hyper-intelligent, so you can multiply them into ten looks with one swap. But the trick of that wardrobe is mainly that you approach the job with a hefty dose of confidence. With a new look, you achieve new successes in a new job. And I hope to do that with these crucial basics.

1. The perfect jeans

When you find the perfect jeans, marry them. This is your companion in my-belly-is-too-big times, but also when you just don’t know what to wear wardrobe-wise anymore.

2. The blazer

Black, and with some optical illusion as if you have a waist that makes you short of breath. A blazer is always a good idea.

3. A good skirt

I’m not really into skirts, but sometimes you have to step out of your comfort zone to amaaaayze your new colleagues.

4. A blouse

In perfect white or blue. A stunner with jeans, under that jacket or with that skirt. Look, you’re already at two and a half outfits.

5. A top-notch top

One that you’ve thought seriously about. I scored a velvet one at & Other Stories, does the job. But don’t forget the white and black ones either.

“Let’s rock the job”

6. Black trousers

Is your day not okay? Black trousers. Do you have a meeting? Black trousers. Is it just a day? The black trousers.

7. Something with shine

Because you need to shine every now and then. Not just under the Christmas tree, but also on a regular Monday morning.

8. Elke’s sweater

A Parisienne cardigan, that makes you spontaneously pretty from its simplicity. Ideal with high heels, sneakers, or a biker boot. The cardigan is typically Elke and I’m going to steal it right now.

9. The coat

You wear that about 75 percent of the time. So invest. Buy a timeless classic right away, you’ll be set for years.

10. The Gucci belt?

Yes, the Gucci belt! Then you can just throw on a garbage bag and you’re still good to go.

11. A little black dress

Because a little black dress is a little black dress.

And then make sure you have at least twenty pairs of sneakers, heels, boots, and booties. A stack of scarves and pretty necklaces (I mean a necklace, of course, sorry May). With the showstopper being the bag, which I still haven’t found. Well, just ten more days… I say: fill my bank account, give me a stylist and I’m ready. Let’s rock the job.
