SPRING HOUSE
This needs to go and this can stay
I think everyone suddenly gets the urge in spring to renovate things. At least, I do. Last week, I completely cleaned out my wardrobe to send eight bags to Africa again. My decluttering frenzy even extended to the basement where I even put nuts and bolts in the right container. The living room has also gotten a totally new look. Old junk out, new fun in. I am totally ready for spring. I'll give you some tips and tricks on what you can best put in a garbage bag in the attic and what you can bring back to life. Long live spring.
This should go or can be replaced:
Sheepskin
I get it. Sheepskin is soft. But besides the fact that they are actually quite ugly (sorry), the winter season is really over. The sheep themselves also leave their fleece as it is in the summer. So you should do the same. Those crumpled, discolored skins can simply be replaced by cozy cushions if you still want to sit comfortably.
Cushions
Furry cushions on the couch in winter colors can definitely get a new cover. Dark purple, dark blue, and other intense colors might be fun to replace this spring with a more colorful and floral version. Trust me, it immediately feels like a new home.
“You probably never look in it and the clutter just piles up”
Clutter
Nine out of ten people have a tray at home with all sorts of loose bottles and containers for candles and small trinkets. Clean that up. You probably never look in it and the clutter just piles up. It becomes more of a historical still life. Make room for new bottles and jars. It looks fresh and you'll enjoy looking at it much more.
Throw
Thick fluffy specimens can go in the box to come out again six months later. Now, in spring, a thin nice picnic blanket can come.
Photo frames
Unless you have a very special feeling attached to them, it’s nice to sometimes upgrade and replace photos. A new quote in a frame, a fresh vacation picture. At least you’ll look at it again instead of just walking past it.
“If you’re not a flamboyant person when it comes to cushions and accessories, then this is the way to compensate for that”
This can stay or must come:
Cloches
Can stay. I think so. You can turn it into a fairy tale forest in winter and a tropical paradise in summer. Fun colorful bird hangers in it, funny cacti, and a summery quote. It looks cozy and it’s really a whole different story than clutter on a tray. There’s a glass lid on it, so it won’t get dusty.
Flowers
Replace candles with flowers. It’s fine to have a nice scented candle, but it’s much nicer to bring more color into your home. If you’re not a flamboyant person when it comes to cushions and accessories, then this is the way to compensate for that. Bloomon really has fantastic field bouquets that don’t make your home look frumpy, but rather very cool.
String lights
No Christmas lights, but fun fairy lights or other small nice lamps.
Color
Seems like a logical continuation if you’ve read the rest of this article as well. Color is allowed. In any way. My house is for example black and white, but the cushions – which are of course also black or white – have yellow and orange edges. It just looks very cozy and fresh.
