THE 5 RESTAURANTS ON MAY'S BUCKET LIST
A while ago I saw the light (but really, read here this). After having made a late reservation for a restaurant in Amsterdam for the eight hundred and seventy-first time, I decided to approach it differently. I call the restaurant where I most want to eat, ask when they have a table, and I'm not surprised when it's not available for another month or, in the case of Kaagman & Kortekaas, even six weeks. Time flies and before you know it, you're laying that linen napkin on your lap.
So I spent an hour figuring out the restaurants where I wanted to eat (if you need more inspiration; this here are the bucket list restaurants from Jet). Ratatouille Food & Wine in Haarlem, Rijsel and Borderwijk in Amsterdam. I filled the tables with friends and thus killed two birds with one stone. Both coziness and must-visit restaurants that I could check off my list.
Yesterday I dined at Kaagman & Kortekaas, so now I want something new again. We happen to have a fantastic food website (FavorFlav.com). I just have to shout out to the editorial team and I get the best tips. Ecco: my new must-visit top 5.
1. A’DAM Tower
You've probably heard of it. The guys from ID&T are building the coolest place in the city, just across the IJ. There will be a private club (think of it as the Amsterdam version of Soho House) where the coolest types in the city come, a hotel with a room costing a tidy 10,000 euros per night, and of course a restaurant. You have to go there. Even if it's just for the view, but I've been told you should also go for the food.
2. Frites Atelier
The new project by Sergio Herman. He has tasted all kinds of potatoes for two years to select the best for his fries. Think cool sauces and the very best mayonnaise you've ever tasted. And the S stands for Sergio and for Smaak, so those Instagram pics will be on point.

3. Scheepskameel
Just when I finally made a reservation at Rijsel, the guys have a new project again. It's called Scheepskameel and it's located at the Marineterrein (so close to the Maritime Museum and the station).
What you can expect here: a rustic kitchen, real food. No mousses and foam layers, but food you recognize. Notable detail: the wine list is entirely German. A bit of an adjustment to the idea, but I will bravely give it a try.
4. Breda
From the guys at Daalder (really good) and Guts & Glory and yes, also from Freek van Noortwijk (with whom I still had this in-depth interview who is Katja Schuurman's boyfriend. I've heard that the space is quite noisy, but that doesn't matter. The food is said to be divine.
5. Choux
Located in the new culinary neighborhood, behind Nemo and thus close to Scheepskameel. Here you eat a lot of vegetables, especially local and seasonal vegetables on your plate. The beautifully arranged plates are already famous, so I warn my dining companions in advance, take a photo of everything before we dig in.
So far this update from your culinary conscience. With special thanks to the friends of FavorFlav, because they really know their stuff.
