The 7 things you need to check when buying a vintage designer bag
Fancy a luxury bag but don't have 1500 euros in the bank? Then it's likely that you'll go for a vintage designer bag. Primadeluxe plan as far as we're concerned, but keep these tips in mind. Note, taken from real life and therefore true.
1. Check the size.
If necessary, with measuring tapes and rulers. Ever since I bought an incredibly flashy weekend bag from Gucci that turned out to be so ridiculously small that it almost fit through the mailbox, I check six times before I order something.
2. Check the handles.
Are they securely attached? Are they not dried out? A few months ago, I managed to get my hands on a great vintage Louis Vuitton bag. A stunning piece, paid six hundred (!) euros for it. But after a week of fairly intensive use, the handle tore off. And of course, just at the moment when I was running (read: stumbling) to the bus in a very UN-charming way. The bag sat unused in the closet for a while, but I couldn't stand that. So I rushed to the Louis Vuitton store for advice. The only solution? I had to have beautiful but not too cheap new handles attached, which suddenly made that vintage bag cost almost 900 euros. Mmm. I did it and I'm awesome happy with the bag, but I did learn from it.
3. Beware of impulse buying.
You know how it goes: just when you've read Vogue or another must-have fashion magazine, you suddenly want a new designer bag and you want it immediately. While you don't have 1500 euros available at all. Well, before you know it, you're online browsing vintage bags and suddenly you've made a bid. But in the meantime, you haven't thought about whether you want the brand or the bag. Is the bag really nice? And doesn't it look damn much like the bag you bought last week? Three hundred euros isn't suddenly free to take.

4. Check the price.
Is it secretly still very high? Sometimes you think you have a good deal because you're hanging around on an official vintage designer site or in a vintage designer store, but don't take the prices there for granted. Everyone likes to price high.
5. What is the wearing comfort?
This sounds really terribly old-fashioned, but honestly: a bag that doesn't carry well, you really won't carry. Weird, right? Ask/measure the length of the handle and see if you can comfortably hang the bag on your shoulder. Do it. You're really not a whiner.
6. Check the corners and buckles.
Because a bag quickly has a rather shabby look if it's damaged.
7. And lastly: is it a classic or is it an it-bag.
That one little season is hot (or was!). It's good to ask yourself in advance what kind of bag you're bringing home. And even if the bag in question doesn't cost that much money, it's still unfortunate if you score a bag that you can't show yourself with decently after a few months. Or not?
P.S.: These are six types of shoes that every woman should have.
