Happy & Healthy

THE COOLEST COOKBOOKS
TO GIVE

The holidays are approaching again (thirty-nine days on the clock, people), so that means: gifts. And let's be honest, those god-awful wish lists are everyone's enemy. The people who really know me, know that there is always something that can make me happy, so I skip the whole list. A cookbook is always welcome. It's even gotten to the point where I have a small addiction. There are still unopened boxes in my apartment because I just don't have any more space and the bookshelf hanging on the wall is slowly starting to sag. One day I hope for my own library, full of cookbooks. With a ladder and a big cozy loveseat. Picture that. My future husband will only benefit from that, right? In the past few months, a lot of new books have also landed in stores and I’ll tell you about the best ones.

1. Jamie Oliver’s Christmas Cookbook – Jamie Oliver

My icon, dream dad, and perfect man all in one. Yes, I am very much into Jamie. With ‘Jamie Oliver’s Christmas Cookbook’, he helps you put the tastiest dishes on the table this holiday season without too much stress. This Christmas bible is therefore both a recipe book and a lifeline in one. Sitting relaxed at the Christmas table, that's what we all want, right?

2. (H)eerlijk makkelijk – Gwyneth Paltrow

Actually already an oldie, because this gem was released in the spring. The female Jamie for me, I love Gwyneth. ‘(H)eerlijk makkelijk’ is a sequel to the first cookbook ‘(H)eerlijk’. All recipes contain little sugar, fat, or gluten and are packed with flavor. Gwyneth not only gives you the most delicious breakfast and dinner recipes, but she also provides tips for the (h)eerlijkste treats and picnics. A must-have for foodies like me.

3. Taste of Persia – Naomi Duguid

Lamb, pistachios, dried limes, pomegranate rose petals, and orange blossom water. Persian cuisine is very pronounced and still quite unknown for our little country. For those who didn't grow up with it, there will be flavor combinations that we don't know and need to get used to. Bademdjan, an eggplant dish with lamb, is one of my favorite dishes from Persian cuisine. I can't wait to dive deeper into it.

4. Kooltje – Pascalle Bonnier & Mathijs Kok

Yes, after the enormous success of ‘Havermoutje’ and ‘Nootje’, Pascalle Bonnier and Mathijs Kok have released a new cookbook. Cabbages are back in style and completely hip. This time we go beyond just kale. This book is a cheerful and modern ode to the cabbages grown in our own country, which are healthy and also easy to obtain. How about cauliflower bitterballs or red cabbage cake with raisins? Guess what will be on the snack board on Friday, here at the editorial office.

5. Lekker Miljuschka – Miljuschka van Witzenhausen

Here our Kiek already talked about Miljuschka’s new cookbook. When I say: Tony’s Chocolonely cheesecake, do you run to the store? That.
