Fun & Famous
THE BOOKS YOU MUST READ BEFORE THEY HIT THE CINEMA IN 2017
Fireplace on, a glass of red wine, Netflix off, and your nose in the books. Go a little crazy the last few days of the year. Super fun, all those Netflix lists that I always send your way, but when it comes to movies, let's be honest: the books are almost always even better. And there’s a lot of beauty we can expect in the new year. Here are the five books you really need to read before they hit the big screen next year:
Hidden Figures
Book fact: This is the extraordinary true story of the first black female mathematician who played a major role in the NASA space race.
Film fact: Famous faces starring in the film adaptation include Taraji P. Henson, Kevin Costner, and Kirsten Dunst. And oh yes, the soundtrack of the film is made by Pharrell.
Big Little Lies
Book fact: This story, written by Australian Liane Moriarty, is about three women who become friends because their children attend the same school. They share joys and sorrows, but during a trivia night at their children's school, one of the parents dies. Was it an accident or was it murder?
Film fact: Okay, this one won't be in theaters, as it is going to be an HBO miniseries filled with Hollywood's biggest names: Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Aleksander Skarsgård (yummy), and Zoë Kravitz.
The Zookeeper’s Wife
Book fact: The Zookeeper’s Wife is also a true story about a couple who hid Jewish families in their zoo during World War II.
Film fact: A powerful, yet incredibly special story featuring actress Jessica Chastain.
The Circle
Book fact: In the social media era we live in, you want to read this book. The story revolves around a girl who starts working at the customer service of a company called The Circle (a bit like Google and Apple) and uncovers a very dark conspiracy...
Film fact: Emma Watson and Tom Hanks. You just know it's going to be a blockbuster.
Annihilation
Book fact: We have another trilogy on our hands. This time no vampires and Lord of the Rings-like stories, but more of a storyline revolving around a biologist, a psychologist, and an anthropologist who are researching an environmental disaster area called Area X.
Film fact: Ka-ching! Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson, Oscar Isaac, and Jennifer Jason Leigh are involved, just to drop a few big names. And the film director is the man behind the brilliant sci-fi film Ex Machina. Unfortunately, no trailer for this one yet, as the film is still in the making.
