The new Ibiza is located in Portugal and goes by the name Comporta
It's true! The new Ibiza is in Portugal. And believe me, even if you're currently hating on Portugal because they won the European Championship and we damn well didn't, I mean, I know it couldn't have happened anyway because we didn't even participate, it's just that it's really an open wound when you can't participate in a European Championship, you're totally off balance as a nation when you don't qualify, but wait a minute, I'm completely losing track. What were we talking about again? Oh yes, Comporta. So that's the new Ibiza. Admittedly, it's not an island, but you want to go there immediately.
Comporta is an incredibly beautiful and still relatively undiscovered area just south of Lisbon. The area in a nutshell: sultry, summery, beach, flamingos, rice fields, vast beaches, beautiful pine forests, cork oaks, and the most beautiful houses, hotels, restaurants, and people. But the most important thing is that there is a relaxed seventies vibe. Nothing is overdone, everything is pure, spacious, picturesque, sunny, and calm. Think of the atmosphere on Vlieland, but with a sultry, vintage Southern European ‘blanket’ over it. And of course, you have to think of the rice fields, because you don't have those on Vlieland, or did I miss something? Oh, and the cork oaks. And the flamingos. No, you don't have those on Vlieland either. Yes, sorry, I won't make that comparison again, but for now, I can't think of anything else and this piece needs to be finished.
”Nothing is overdone, everything is pure, spacious, picturesque, sunny, and calm”
Would you rather go to Spain? Formentera is the trendy little sister of Ibiza
Okay, Comporta is really the ultimate destination for you and your loved one – but it's also great for families. It's ‘hidden chic’ there. You don't party here. It's about eating, drinking, luxury shopping in boutiques, and sunbathing on the beach or on the terrace of your heavenly hotel or house. The comparison with Ibiza holds as long as you compare it to the quieter Ibiza of the sixties and seventies. Do you want to go there? Then I say: good plan, how did you come up with that, what an inspiration!
I have three fabulous stay tips for you. Just save up a bit.
1. Hotel/restaurant Sublime Comporta
An absolute oasis. Because: a super luxurious country house retreat near the beautiful wine estate Herdade da Comporta. The rooms are impeccable, the interior award-winning, and the wine incredibly divine. All your photos will turn out great here because it's magic hour all day long and I'm not exaggerating.
2. Cabanas No Rio
Two beautiful old fishermen's huts that have been restored (and have actually become much more than a fishermen's hut, otherwise I wouldn't send you there, what do you take me for). The cabanas are located in a beautiful area around the Sado River and are very stylish, luxurious, and nice. This is where you recharge your batteries. And not just your phone's, but your own.
3. Or you rent a nice country house yourself
Not in the mood for a hotel or fishermen's hut? Then you settle into one of these beautiful houses. One even more beautiful than the other. My personal preference goes to the cool family house Portugal Modern. Amazing styling if you ask me. So cool that you suddenly find your own house painfully ugly, so to speak. Books at your own risk.
