Things that become more enjoyable when you spend just a little more money on them
Some things you can buy very cheaply, but there are also things that make life oh so much more pleasant if you spend a little extra money on them. Really, trust me on this one.
Razor blades
For years I bought the cheapest blades at Hema or Kruidvat. Super crappy blades with 10 in a pack. I didn't care at all and I didn't think those expensive blades were worth my money. But I paid a hefty price for that: 60% of shaving sessions resulted in a bloodbath that American Psycho could take notes from, and especially my ankles and knees are still covered in scars from those cheap crappy blades. So now I buy quite expensive ones, which glide elegantly over my legs and have never caused me a bit of pain. And how nice that is.
Wine
At the same time as the blades (I was just a poor student back then) I only drank cheap wine from the Ap. When friends came over to drink wine, I reasoned, it's all about getting drunk so what does it matter what we drink? Especially the Mooi Kaap and Soave bottles went down quickly. Recently I was out for dinner and someone pulled a bottle of Soave from the cupboard, I took a sip and my whole mouth immediately twisted. What a disgusting sour mess, I really can't drink that anymore. But luckily you can also get a decent cheap wine for 5 euros that is actually nice, so just leave that 2 euro junk alone.
Mozzarella
At Albert Heijn, there was Euroshopper mozzarella and I always bought that. It's a kind of plastic lump. Don't do that anymore, just spend a little more money on really good buffalo mozzarella that you preferably don't buy in a regular supermarket.
Speaker
Don't do this to yourself by listening to music through crappy speakers that always crackle a bit and invest in a good one. For example, this, I'm really completely crazy about that.
Suitcase
Also something like that, a suitcase. You can get one for thirty bucks at the market, but bet that it will fall apartin no time? It's not fun to see all your carefully packed clothes rolling by on the baggage carousel. Just buy a good one, you'll enjoy it your whole life.
