WHAT DO YOU WEAR TO A TENNIS TOURNAMENT?
Almost even more fun than the match itself, I find it watching the VIPs in the royal boxes and VIP areas at the Grand Slam tournaments. Prince and Beyoncé at Roland Garros, Kate and William at Wimbledon next to quasi royalty David and Victoria Beckham. And I will never forget how intensely cool ‘model girlfriend’ Daphne Deckers looked in the stands when Richard Krajicek rolled out every player on the Wimbledon grass. Blissful...
Now, the particularly pleasant fact is that it was precisely that Daphne Deckers who invited me to a Ladies Day where she invites a select group of ‘leading women in the media’ for a star lunch, a tour of the VIP village, and of course watching the matches themselves.
Flattered and honored, but what does one wear to something like that? Because I can't rely on my tennis knowledge. I did some digital research and found some good and some less successful examples.
Beyoncé with wild extensions and seven necklaces I found a bit less suitable for the occasion. Just like Prince, by the way, with his afro hair, hippie tunic, and mirrored glasses.
Pictures of the teacher received Victoria Beckham, Kate Middleton and our own Daphne for their presence at Wimbledon.
Aside from Daphne's look when Richard was wimbledoning (she was super understated in jeans with a sweater and a cap, but hey, they hadn't been in traffic for long and she didn't want to distract attention), the ladies wear elegant dresses in a striking color or pattern. Preferably one that matches the background. Let Wimbledon and the ABN AMRO tournament now have green as their house color, so with one outfit I'm good for both. Not that I've been invited to Wimbledon, but at least I'm outfit-wise ready for it.
Most ladies, by the way, wore a sleeve. From a clap and wave technical perspective, a great idea. Classy and crispy are the words. I'm going for a vintage Vuitton jacket that I combine with my Rag & Bone jeans. Chanel necklace on and I'm VIP box ready. And my yellow Chanel bag can come along. It will surely feel at home among all that green.
