WHAT I HAVE LEARNED FROM MY FIRST WEEK IN AMSTERDAM
door Simone Olivia
As you may know here As you could read earlier, I have been a fresh Amsterdammer for a few days now. I come from Maastricht, which is quite a thing with all those hard G's at the office. I didn't expect so much to change... I want to take you through my first week as an Amsterdammer.
I want to take you through my first week as an Amsterdammer.
– In Amsterdam, there is an uber-cool office. This office is called Amayzine. Here work the coolest colleagues, and this makes my job the most fun job you could wish for.
– It seems that I have to dodge the tram tracks when I am on my bike. Working on it.
– I still fall a bit short with my soft G, we need to make that a bit harder as soon as possible (although my colleagues secretly find it very cute).
– Thanks to Amsterdam, I have learned that sneakers can just go under that fancy dress, maybe even must. Luckily, I have Jet and Jos around me who prove every day that sneakers just complete the look.
– So it's not weird at all that while I eat my bowl of yogurt at 8 in the morning, the guy under my window has already had his first vodka cola (very normal here in Amsterdam).
– Also a plus, I can get stoned for free. I just have to open my balcony doors. Just kidding, fit chicks don't do that...
– So I never have to cook again since my ‘where-to-eat’ list is already longer than my ex list. One word: foodora.
– Ikea can expect a visit from me because wow, I have so much stuff and that's why Friday will be a return trip to Maastricht because even after a full moving truck, I still don't have everything at the location.
– Apparently, 'wablief' does not exist in the Amsterdam vocabulary... Just like fries are simply called patat here (my Amsterdam nephew gave me a lesson).
– The TV will stay off from now on, the live images from my balcony are much more entertaining!
– Sometimes I secretly wonder if I really live in the Netherlands. More English, Spanish, French, and Chinese is spoken around me than Dutch. So don't be surprised if in a few weeks I type my pieces in Chinese.
Normal Spinning is so 2015, Rocycling is totally hip
– Normal Spinning is so 2015. Rocycling is totally hip, you just do this on top of the A'dam tower. And if you're going to exercise anyway, it's also very normal to try out all the gyms in town instead of a daily visit to the gym around the corner.
Amsterdam makes me feel completely happy, giddy, and my heart skips a beat again. I'll stick around for a bit.
