What if the cork breaks off. Panic? No.

Well, that doesn't look very professional, does it? You have a cozy house party, you're working hard in the kitchen, you buy the absolute best wine from your favorite wine shop, you want to uncork it coolly between courses where you actually aren't a star at all, and then it happens: the whole cork breaks in two....
Okay, fine is different (you immediately have an accelerated heartbeat and a desperate look as a result) but really, there's no need to panic! It's not a big deal and easy to solve, as long as you handle it carefully and keep your head a bit cool. Otherwise, you'll still be caught out that you actually never open that bottle. And of course, no one wants that.

And that's why, a mini-guide on what to do when a cork breaks off and since prevention is better than cure: how to avoid this horror scene.

– Still broken? If you feel that the piece of cork is still firmly in the bottle, you can carefully screw the corkscrew back in.

– Again: keep your head cool. Nothing to worry about.

– If this is a difficult job, you can really push the cork down, right into the bottle. You could strain the wine, but I find that a bit excessive. A piece of cork can easily be fished out of the glass.

– Make a joke like: “Oops, haha, well at least the wine has cork without tasting it. Hehe.”

– Don't be stingy about buying a good corkscrew. It's not your fault, but the corkscrew's. So invest in this.
