WITH OUR FEET ON HOLY GROUND
We have actually been in perfume paradise
When you think of perfumes, you think of Grasse. That is a small town in France filled with special gardens and flower fields, where the best (smelling, right) ingredients come from. And from those ingredients, of course, the best scents are made. It's basically a sacred area where you can sniff around for hours.
Our Tessa got to go to Grasse with Otentic Perfumes, and when she returned after two days smelling wonderful, I was of course hanging on her lips for the report. Because I had to know how it was in that perfume paradise.
Okay, that report took about three hours because I was dealing with someone who was so incredibly enthusiastic about her visit that, to be precise, 180 minutes were spent talking without it getting boring. Because Tessa is an incredible lover of scents and prefers to stick her nose in the most beautiful bottles: she had the honor of going. From factory to Jean-Denis Saisse (the perfumer of Otentic Perfumes); Tessa saw it all.
So there were several advantages to that trip. Advantage 1: Tessa arrived in Grasse, which turned out to be an incredibly beautiful place. If you google it, it might look a bit dull, but in real life, it really comes to life. It's high time for a new photographer to go there to refresh the pictures a bit. Advantage 2: the sun was shining. Not bad. Although the sun always shines in France, of course. Advantage 3: there was a delicious lunch ready. Advantage 4: that lunch was also with Jean-Denis Saisse. Advantage 5: Tessa is about fifty facts richer about Otentic Perfumes, scents, ingredients, and history, so she returned incredibly intelligent.
A short report. Jean-Denis Saisse is the nose behind the scents of Otentic Perfumes. Born in Grasse, so everything about scents has been ingrained in him since childhood (or sniffed in, it depends on how you look at it). Together with Otentic Perfumes, he has developed 64 different scents that can be divided into eight categories. So you choose a category that you like and then let your nose go over the eight bottles that should suit you. Just take a look here, I'll tell you more about that.
Furthermore, they drove to Jean-Denis's garden where they took a hundred Instagram photos and walked around the garden for hours. A garden where all the flowers and raw materials grow and bloom, and where you can make quite a few perfumes from. Although you have to wait a bit, because sometimes it takes three years before the raw material is developed and you can really use it.
The rest of the day was about sniffing. Eating and sniffing. It was a tough trip, I heard. The morning that followed I found even more interesting. She was invited to Jean-Denis's home where they could smell all sorts of nice bottles and flacons. And yes, there are quite a few, because Jean-Denis has plenty of experience when it comes to perfuming. Besides all that beauty, there was a considerable bulk of inspiration to be seen. Old testaments, secrets and tricks that came from his family, and other sweet cards with inspiring perfume tips.
Okay. I totally interrogated Tessa. And it was interesting. Really interesting. Besides the fact that she had an incredibly inspiring trip, gave her nose an orgasm of scents, and now knows everything about the special background of Otentic Perfumes, Tessa is quite a bit richer in facts. Secretly, I have a budding perfumer sitting next to me. And a nice smelling girl. By the way, I will be pulling quite a few facts from her in the coming weeks to keep you totally informed about the perfume paradise.
