12 X HOW DO I SURVIVE
BLUE MONDAY
It's Blue Monday, dear Amayzers, the most depressing day of the year. The creamy full-fat Mont d'Ortjes, perfectly whipped clotted cream, and addictively good truffle mayo have made way for absolutely tasteless 0% yogurt, cork-dry chicken breast, and terribly boring celery. And yes, those good intentions we were so excited about two weeks ago are already going down the drain. Did I mention that I'm fed up with these temperatures? What a drama day. Oh no, blue Monday.
With the right hocus pocus from my side, you'll get through this blueness just fine today. Just read on.
1. Comfort yourself with the thought that you are not alone. January is actually just made for a 30-day winter sleep. Idea for 2017?
2. Laugh, preferably out loud. When you laugh, hormones are released. These so-called body-own ‘antidepressants’ help you relax. Now I'm lucky that the funniest Kiki is sitting across from me. So I'll get through this Blue Monday.
3. Help others get through this tough day. Make coffee for your colleague, write a sweet note for your girlfriend, or buy a bouquet of flowers for your loved one. It's the little moments of happiness that matter, remember?
4. Dive into the kitchen after work and bake, for example, this carrot cake. We'll just pretend calories don't exist today, tomorrow is another day. And another layer of frosting, hoppa.
5. Look for your next vacation destination or book a weekend away with a friend. If you have something to look forward to, it will naturally put a smile on your face.
“Oh no, blue Monday.”
6. Put on your favorite music, turn up the volume, and dance your heart out. Here it comes, colleagues!
7. Invite your besties over for tonight, fiddle together a big platter of goodies on the table (including that Mont d'Or you just kicked out of your fridge) and cry a box of Kleenex away with one of these classics. #nomnomnom
8. Watch one of my favorite TED Talks. If I can't drag you through this, these handsome speakers surely can.
9. Go outside and grab a nice lunch out. A breath of fresh air will do you good. And okay, a croquette sandwich is allowed today.
10. While exercising might appear on your list of ‘failed good intentions’, it's never too late to pick it up again. Trust me, you'll feel much better. And uh, an extra portion of carrot cake is fine.
11. Avoid your Insta, because that flawless appearance on your social (read: handsome faces and their even more handsome size 0) won't get you through the day today.
12. Know that this day will pass, dive under the covers early, and tomorrow you'll wake up with a mountain of energy.
– And lastly: Be kind to yourself. Take a nice bath, light some candles,.
