15x this is how you become a child again
Sometimes I just get really fed up with it all, this whole being an adult. Especially on a sunny day like today. Where has the time gone when you pulled your super soaker out from under the dust in the garage and as a girl you were satisfied with just a little swimsuit where half the time your butt popped out? When a small bag of chips felt like the XL bag of today and an extra ice cream was no problem because you had never heard of a scale. No credit card statements, meetings, and other grown-up world things. The only thing that could somewhat stress you out back then was the choice between a croquette and a hot dog at your fries. Those were the days... Yet sometimes, very rarely, the little girl in me still crawls back up. These things from my childhood I will never, ever forget. Just because I can.
- Walking from A to B and making the most of all the obstacles in between. Balancing on curbs, throwing pebbles in the water, skipping paving stones, and uh, don't forget the ‘floor is lava’.
- Swings. I can't help it but I climb on them. And I want to go as high as I can. And preferably be pushed.
- Blowing bubbles with cotton candy pink gum. Those big super sweet blocks of Hubba Bubba, yes.
- Climbing trees. And thus getting scraped knees.
- Eating Mac & Cheese. Okay, not that chemical orange mass that I used to love being served at my family in the USA, no, homemade, preferably with as many different types of cheese as possible and baked in the oven. For once no steamed broccoli and grilled chicken, but cheese and pasta. On the couch with just a spoon.
- Jumping rope. Also really good for staying in shape. But the most fun is with three people and a veeeery long rope.
- Building Lego. Thank god I have two nephews so I can do this without shame. It looks a bit weird if I bring a date home and there's a whole castle of Lego in the living room.
- Unashamedly licking the mixing bowl with cake batter clean with a finger. Why do you even put that baking tray in the oven?
- Braiding hair. My goddaughter is the best. Luckily, she is always at the front when it comes to handing out a set of Elsa-and-Anna braids.
- Roasting marshmallows over a campfire. Okay, a campfire is definitely my favorite. But give me a long stick and a bag of marshmallows and I am an incredibly happy person.
- Eating Danoontjes. But then the whole pack, because one Danoontje equals one adult tablespoon.
- Scooping candy.
- First bite off the bottom tip of your Cornetto and then suck the melted ice cream out through the bottom.
- Filling the bath with water and half a bottle of bubble bath.
- Watching Disney movies. I mention a Beauty and the Beast for the fiftieth time.
