24 HOURS IN BREDA
Yehess ladies, this is the very first place I ever lived in the Netherlands. After graduating in Paris, it was destination Breda where my father also studied in his younger years and where I found an English-speaking program to follow. Look, Breda and I were not a match made in heaven when it comes to living, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a top city. There’s a reason they call it the pearl of the south and if you’re heading to the sunny south soon, I would definitely try not to miss these highlights:
A cup of coffee at Yirga
First of all, I just want to have the kitchen that’s here in my own house. Or at least in the house where Simone lives, so that she can cook for me every day and I can just sit there and enjoy. But anyway, back to Yirga. Here you start your day with a cup of coffee and lemongrass cheesecake. Wine at Brasserie Bardot.
You can take a girl out of Paris, but you can’t take Paris out of a girl. Or you just go to Brasserie Bardot, by far the favorite in Breda. It’s beautiful, the French cuisine is très bien and if you feel like having a nice drink, then you go for wine at Petit Bardot.
Lunch at JanenAlleman.
Perhaps the coziest and most special café in Breda thanks to the service. The team at JanenAlleman consists of young adults with intellectual disabilities who serve you the tastiest sandwiches, salads, and pastries.
Refreshing drinks at Frezzo.
Simone already wrote it: for the best ice creams, you go to Frezzo.
Walking route here Also known as the shopping route. With your ice cream from Frezzo in hand, you walk towards Het Ginneken. Via the Nieuwe Ginnekenstraat and the Wilhelminastraat, you come across the cutest interior shops. Step inside concept store Palma Breda and also at Misses Breda, where you’ll find Amayzine favorites Isabel Marant,.
and Paul & Joe.
Restaurant Salon de Provence, Jérôme Dreyfuss If you’re here, say hi to the chef for me. He’s a good friend of mine and the best cook there is. And no, I’m not biased. Salon de Provence is a living room restaurant with a menu that makes you feel like you’re in the real Provence.
Sports at Old Dutch Breda
Okay, I haven’t been here myself yet because it recently opened and I haven’t been to the south in a while, but an insider told me that this new sports bar in Breda is totally the shit. That insider was a man, so I get it, but ladies, these are the places where you often meet the nicest guys. Just sayin’...
If you happen to be in the neighborhood this coming Sunday, I would definitely drop by Strand Binnen for a dance. The boys from XXL Events organize ‘Zonnig’ every Sunday in the summer here. House music, Coronas, and gin tonics. I mean, these are the best ingredients to wrap up your weekend.
If you want to stay longer than 24 hours...
Sunny side up
...book a room at Hotel Nassau. Talk about an Instagram-worthy hotel!.
