9x no-go's for a wedding

Weddings are full of etiquette and not just for the bride and groom, also for you. Because you can't just wear your entire wardrobe. Do you have a wedding coming up and have no idea what to wear? Then while searching for the perfect outfit, keep these nine no-go's in mind.

1. White

There's a good chance the bride will wear white on her wedding day. And since she will be the center of attention and no one else is allowed to steal that spotlight, a white outfit is not an option. And no, girlfriend, no shade of white.

2. Black

A black outfit is a gray area. A little black dress for the evening party is fine, but for a summer wedding, a pop of color during the day might be a better idea.

3. Too revealing

Weddings are classy, so it's appropriate to dress accordingly. Not too revealing and certainly not too short. The rule is: either an open neckline or bare legs.

4. Flip-flops

Open shoes are fine, especially if the temperature rises above 25. But simple flip-flops are the other extreme. They can be great to have in your bag to relieve yourself of those killer heels around midnight, but before that, it should be a bit more dressed up.

5. Noisy jewelry

Jangling bracelets or necklaces should stay in your bag until after the ceremony, because you don't want all eyes on you while saying your vows.

6. New shoes

Tight shoes, too high heels, starting blisters, or crow's feet; make sure the shoes you wear are broken in or at least comfortable. Because the last thing you want is to end up barefoot.

7. Something that doesn't fit the dress code

Is the dress code ‘color’? Then leave those fifty shades of gray neatly in the closet. But also when a wedding takes place on the beach, there are outfits you better not wear. For example, leave high heels, winter dresses, or boots in the closet and go for a beachy touch.

8. Tracksuit

This seems like a logical issue, yet nowadays anything goes. Even if the suit is the most expensive of the expensive, that tracksuit is for the couch or to quickly grab that forgotten carton of milk at the supermarket. Yes, even if the dress code is ’tenue de ville’, which literally means: clothing you wear to the city. It's a daytime dress code with a classy touch. A tracksuit or that ultra comfy sweater is and remains a no-go.

9. A hat

Officially, the rule is that as a woman, you only wear a hat if the mother of the bride does too. So check with the bride before you put a cute little hat on your head.
