A honeymoon with all your friends
Getting married isn't on the agenda yet, but I'm already looking forward to the trip afterwards. What am I saying, trip? A grotesque journey. On Monday, we hop on the bike (for show, because it's free) and say yes in a little office at the town hall. Then we go eat and have some wine with our loved ones, at a quarter past wine the Uber picks us up and we take off to a faraway place. Just a few months. We're going to spend all the saved pennies for that special big day on a really long trip. Oh how delightful, maybe I should get a move on with that wedding.
But, there is a new hype under the sun. One that completely derails my carefully planned honeymoon to the Maldives, Koh Lanta and Los Angeles (I'm just naming a few, you know) altogether. The buddymoon. And yes, you might already have the right dark brown suspicion. The word says it all; you're not just traveling with your beloved but also with the whole friend group. To celebrate your marriage.
I find it strange. And now I thought everyone in the editorial team would wholeheartedly agree with me. As in yes-and-amen scenes, Adeline-we're-opening-the-wine-on-your-behalf and applause-because-truly-it-is-true. Well, none of that. It got a bit quiet, I saw some thinking going on and then the buddymoon was actually just a good idea. I stammered something about romantic, steamy nights and publicly making out with your love, but it was too late. The buddymoon was embraced, because you've already been living together for ages so you're going on vacation together. And how fun is it to stretch that wedding? Noted and once, because I never want to go home when there's a chance of a party.
That's why I have a brilliant idea. Enter the buddy-with-your-honey-moon (and forgive me all those little dashes, but I just love to introduce new words). How does it work? You get married across the border with friends and family, add some nice party noise in the form of a few days of binge drinking and then you send them out the door. Nice unwelcoming Dutch, but hey, they were allowed to come along. So I see here just a new wedding trend emerging, maybe something for your big day?
