The wedding trends of 2017
You have been asked to be the master of ceremonies and can finally get started. I already told you how to best get started planning-wise, so if all goes well, the first steps have been taken. But what now? With these wedding trends, your best friend's wedding will be a day that everyone will remember for a long time. Here are the trends of 2017:
1. Invitation
And it all starts with the invitation. Trigger your guests by sending them a unique invitation. Think of an invite made of plexiglass, glow in the dark ink, a specially designed illustration by you, or a videotape of you and your loved one.
2. A gift lounge
A welcome gift for your guests in the hotel room is very personal and fun, but it also takes a lot of time. Set up a space at the entrance where guests can create their own party package. Think of snacks, mini appetizers, bottles of water, paracetamol, S mints, etc.
3. Gift wishes
Asking for an envelope is always good, but receiving a gift is and remains the most fun. So why not wish for what you really want? Think of a new mountain bike, a theater subscription, a cooking course, or a subscription to that yoga school. Super original and time-saving for your guests.
4. Green
All natural and pastel colors have been a bit out. Color is coming back and that’s what I like the most. Green is very much the color of this year. Especially if you plan to have an outdoor party, you can go many ways with green. Let it come back in your table decoration, flowers, invitations, and maybe even in your guests' outfits.
“Think of old-fashioned cricket, shuffleboard, twister, or bowling.”
5. Transportation
Now you can of course transport your guests in a carriage or an American school bus, but many have already gone before you in this. Surprise them with a ride they would never expect. On the back of a motorcycle, in old army trucks, or with a bunch of Solexes. Even if it’s just for the brilliant photos afterwards.
6. Food
More and more food trucks are taking over the traditional ‘sit down dinner’. Be creative and make different ‘stations’ with your favorite food. For example, an oyster stand, a table with cheese and wine, a burger bar, and an ice tap.
7. Games
For the dead hours, create a game corner. And see it as an icebreaker among your guests. Getting to know each other better in a playful way, nothing better than that, right? Think of old-fashioned cricket, shuffleboard, twister, or bowling.
8. Original snacks
Having a waiter go around with small snacks like glasses of shrimp cocktail or macarons is fine, but it’s not really sexy. For example, create a donut wall where your guests can grab a mini donut and top it with whatever they like. Melting chocolate, velvety vanilla cream, caramel, or cotton candy pink glaze. You give your guests something to do and they have something to talk about for a long time.
9. Lounge
Lounge corners and bean bags are very 2016. The new hit: the swing. Perfect when the feet need a little rest after an hour of dancing on the floor. Hang king & queen swings in the open air. It brings out the child in your guests, bet?
10. Cake
Finally, the cake. Not a fan of perfectly decorated and over-the-top wedding cakes? Then the naked cake is the solution. A lot less intense than the calorie bombs covered in fondant or marzipan and just as beautiful. The same goes for your wedding cake: less is more…
