FINALLY: I am going to New York for the first time

In fact: at the moment you are reading this, I am on the plane heading to the concrete jungle where dreams are made of. For the first time in my life. I’m. So. Freaking. Excited. Bounce effect times HUNDRED. Alicia Keys, here I come!

A few months ago, I told my mother that it was downright embarrassing that I (the Carrie Bradshaw lover, Gossip Girl devourer, fashionista, and captain of Team Hotdog/Donut/Cupcake) had never been to New York. It was embarrassing, she thought so too. Then, very softly, she confessed that she had never been there either. THE HYPOCRITE. And then it was enough, we had to and would go to New York. Together. As if fate was playing along, my blue buddies from the royal airline soon came with the KLM World Deal Weeks. 490 bucks for a round trip to New York. We looked at each other, blinked twice, and suddenly it was booked.

“NYC baby, we belong together,
even if you might not know that yet”

And now we are sitting together on the plane. Our first mother/daughter trip in eight years. How fun is that? And yes, call me a dodo, but I find it a bit exciting to go to the Big Apple for the first time. As in: love butterflies. It feels like I’m finally going to meet my online friend. What does she look like? What can I expect? Is she as fun as on the phone? Once I see her, will it feel like we’ve known each other for years? Will we be laughing hysterically? Drinking Cosmos? Of course. NYC baby, we belong together, even if you might not know that yet.

Anyway, my mutti and I (her name is Trudy, but she also responds to Truudster) are staying for a week, so plenty of time to take the entire tourist route. Taking selfies at Times Square, biking over the Brooklyn Bridge, visiting the Statue of Liberty, peeking in the windows of Tiffany’s on Fifth Avenue, checking out the famous steps of Carrie (our Mayke did it too) and passing by the impressive 9/11 Memorial. Then a stroll through Central Park, shopping, shopping, shopping squared, drinking cocktails at The Boom Boom Room, and of course eating at all the trendy spots recommended to us by the New York experts. Man, we’re going to run out of time!

You understand: soon there will be much, much more about NY. And of course, a mother/daughter vlog will be made and knowing my mother, it will be almost pee-in-your-pants funny. I’m already looking forward to it.

Oh and, if you know any cool, bizarre, or photogenic spots where we really need to grab a burger/cocktail/sushi platter, just email me at kiki@amayzine.com.
