10 signs that it's time for ’the talk’

Define the relationship

So you've been dating for a while for quite some time.. You feel butterflies. You keep getting asked whether you are officially together or not. Long story short: it's time for ’the talk’. In my previous relationship, it was quite a joke. We were both pretty tipsy and although we are usually happy drunks, we were mega emotional. Yes, there were tears. No idea why, but I blame the alcohol. Anyway, we were finally officially boyfriend and girlfriend and that title does take some pressure off your shoulders, because you finally know for sure that you are on the same page regarding your relationship.

Are you still a bit in that unclear zone of: do we have something or not? Here are all the signs that it's time to call your boy to the mat, because that grey area you are in is confusing. Time for some clarity. Are you nothing more than a fun f-buddy or is this the real deal?

  1. You are constantly together. You can't even remember the last time you didn't lie next to him in bed for an evening.
  2. Everywhere you go, everyone thinks you are a couple. That saleswoman in the store when you recently helped him upgrade his wardrobe and the women at the bar who you see eyeing him but don't approach him because they think you are a couple, for example.
  3. Your Instagram/Facebook/Twitter/whatever social media platform is full of pictures of the two of you.
  4. Something crazy happens at work or with friends? He is the first person you call. And calling is definitely a thing. If you do that, it's already a good sign because with a real fling, you usually only text (here by the way, tips if you want to dump that fling).
  5. He is also the very last person you speak to before you go to snooze.
  6. You notice that you are starting to get jealous. Not in an irrational way, but it makes sense, especially if it's still not entirely clear whether you are a couple or not.
  7. You have long deleted Tinder and Happn from your phone.
  8. And other men are no longer found in your bed.
  9. You have left your own stash of stuff at his house (think toothbrush and such), and he has done the same at yours.
  10. You have already met his parents. Or at least a few of the most important people in his life. I mean, if that’s not a good sign…

But suppose, suppose everything above is true and you have ’the talk’ but he is not ready to commit? Do yourself a favor, quit while you’re ahead. It will save you quite a bit of heartache.
