BEAUTYTRENDS MAC FASHION
WEEK LONDON
What do you do when your alarm goes off at half past six because you need to be backstage at half past eight on the other side of London? Right: cover up the souvenir from the night before (dark circles, yes) with a good concealer and a hefty swipe of foundation from our friends at MAC Cosmetics and make sure you get there by bike. With good intentions, Elke and I had expressed our resolution the night before to cycle through the city. Unfortunately, the morning went a bit differently and we happily flopped into the back seat of George, our private driver, at eight o'clock. Kind of, right? Once on location, we divided the tasks: Elke was in charge of social media and I brought out my photography skills and got to work with the big people’s camera. Give me such a beast in my hands and I go wild, you know.
When you look around on the street to spot the latest trends here in London, you should just walk out the door straight from your bed. Plain, pure, and especially beautiful are the keys. Nothing more is needed to get through the day. Not blessed with a porcelain complexion? I told you here what my secret is. You can now stay in bed for a quarter of an hour longer...
Now a bit about today’s shows:
Anya Hindmarch
We started the morning at Anya Hindmarch, where the wizards from MAC had done their best to create the most plain and basic look possible. With just a nice basic (Face and Body, a winning product) and a highlight lip balm on the cheeks, the models looked stunning, probably with even less sleep than Elke and I. The legs got a plastic look with an extra swipe of foundation. The goal of the MAC artists was to create an ‘athletic look’ on the skin. Smooth polished bodies in nothing more than woolen hotpants. No fuss on the nails either; a clear polish is all they need. And the Netherlands is well represented here in London. Veerle Verboom and Annekee Molenaar walked their first show during London Fashion Week. I couldn't handle it, what a beauty.
Preen
Well ladies, did you have a wild night and do you have those beautifully painted red lips everywhere but on your lips? No worries, it’s just completely fashionable. Smudged red lips and smoky eyes are the keys during the Preen show. And as rough as the makeup was done, the nails were adorned subtly and almost fairy-tale-like with just a base coat, subtle, small (and real) flower petals, a topcoat, and, yes; hairspray. Pick your daisies and bring out your can of Elnett, because a flower meadow on your nails is in this season. And here too, we had some Dutch chit-chat with Jessie Bloemendaal and Romy Schönberger.
We skipped the touch-up at the end of the day. With runny eyes and faded lipstick (I just kissed a random English gentleman in the tube, just kidding) on to the next show. Nice according to the trend, as it should be.
