Bye Bye Fur

Good news for all faux fur fans, fur lovers and animal friends: Gucci fur no more. While Bijenkorf, Net-a-Porter, Mr. Porter and others like The Outnet have previously decided to no longer support fur and prefer to see no fur walking off the catwalk, it is Gucci that now, as one of the first and also largest fashion houses, adopts a fur-free policy in the fashion world. The decision may seem somewhat surprising, as looking back at past collections, it is precisely Gucci that knows how to excel with the fur trend. But really, it is going to happen. In 2018 to be precise.

So, Gucci president Marco Bizzarri announced last night during a lecture in London that in the spring of 2018, Gucci will showcase its very first completely fur-free collection on the catwalk. With this decision, the Italian fashion house also immediately joins the Fur Free Alliance, a coalition of dozens of organizations actively committed to renouncing animal cruelty in the clothing industry. Calvin Klein, Giorgio Armani, and Ralph Lauren are already on board. My heart isn't skipping a beat today for a new designer bag or coat; this time it's my fashion heart that beats for the animals. Who’s next?
