Crying after sex?

This means it

Have you ever had to cry really hard during or after sex? Like a sudden ugly wail out of nowhere, while you’re not really sad at all? Join the club.

The first time I was completely shocked. Let alone my partner, who looked at me with a look of: SWEETHEART, what’s wrong? “I don’t know, boohoohoo,” came out very pitifully, followed by a silly laughing fit. Release is a strange thing. Luckily, I’m not the only weirdo who has experienced this, as various studies show that half of women sometimes inexplicably cry after a steaming session hanging in the lights. Some even do it multiple times a month.

Does the whole thing have a name? Yes, they call it postcoital crying spells. Not only women, but also men can suddenly be overwhelmed during or after the act. With the ‘release’ that occurs during an orgasm, other emotions can also be released, it seems. Additionally, you can also release a lot of tension during the moment of climax, which can make you feel emotional.

In some specific cases, researchers suggest it could be related to having a flashback during the moment, or a memory of something unpleasant that you’ve pushed down for a long time. But most women who have a crying spell after sex are not sad, traumatized, or depressed.

Does it say something about your relationship? Not necessarily. Most women I speak to generally have a healthy, happy relationship. If you burst into tears weekly, it might be time to scratch your head a bit, but for now I would say: don’t worry, girlies. Every person sometimes doesn’t have control over their body, and a nice cry every now and then doesn’t make anyone worse off.
