Martin Scorsese in Amsterdam
Movie buffs pay attention: Martin is in Damsko. Not physically unfortunately, but recently there is a retrospective exhibition of his work on display in the film halls of EYE. Martin Scorsese – The Exhibition has an extensive film program that provides insight into his life and work. Fragments of films and documentaries, never before shown photos, scripts, and storyboards from the private archive of not only Scorsese but also his film buddy Robert De Niro can be admired.
Twenty-four films by Scorsese are shown on original 35 mm prints – okay, no idea what this exactly is, but it sounds a thousand times better than sitting in a Pathé theater with 3D glasses. Think of The Last Waltz, The King of Comedy, and The Age of Innocence, and starting July 6, a number of his most famous films will also be shown in EYE. I mention Taxi Driver, Goodfellas, and Raging Bull.
Music lovers, and especially fans of Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones, you also want to come here, because you can watch the documentaries about these artists, made by Scorsese, of course. And Scorsese himself has also put together a film program with films that have always inspired him; from European classics to Japanese masterpieces.
Until September 3, this exhibition can be seen in EYE. I mean: great reason to come to our capital, am I right?
