DO WE ALL HAVE TO
SEE A THERAPIST?
It's a thing among millennials. We all seem to be ‘suddenly’ seeing a psychologist. In the past, you wouldn't dare to talk openly about this. Because hello, cuckoo, the world would think you're ‘crazy’.
Now it's a trend, we talk about it openly. By the way, is it really true that young people today are more focused on self-development and cleaning up than ever before? Or have we always done that and are we finally brave enough to talk about it? Anyway, the taboo is gone. Are you working on yourself? Then you're doing great. Went to a life coach? Good for you. It fits perfectly in a world where more young people than ever are struggling with burnouts, panic attacks, pressure from social media, and the need to keep going, going, going in the steam train.
We all want to be happy, conscious, relaxed, and energetic, but isn't it crazy that it doesn't always work in a pretty hectic world where the choices are endless? Is your phone on 24/7? Do you feel the pressure to lead the ‘perfect life’? It's rush hour in your head all the time. Doesn't that make you feel restless, tired, and stressed?
‘Why should you be ashamed of your ‘dark side’?’
As you know, I like breaking taboos. Why should you be ashamed of your ‘dark side’? We all have one, right? I do talk about my panic attacks. And what you do to reduce. About a huge student debt the size of 8 Chanel bags that still gives me the creeps. About needing to catch my breath sometimes. Because dear people, that's sometimes also life.
And for those who are thinking: okay... miss the airy fairy, what the heck are you trying to sell me? Sorry. I have no shares in the Dutch Federation of Psychologists, Quacks, and Pushers (feel free to open a bottle of white on the couch with your best friend, it works just as well), but sometimes, sometimes it's just very enlightening to chat with a professional. Someone who can view your life from a helicopter perspective, who can make the balance between mind and body right again. And when you get closer to yourself, you see how fun, good, talented, and powerful you are.
So, are you losing me? Then I'm at the therapist. Or dancing with my grumbling cats in the living room. That works too.
