All about the make-up detox
Month after month I had the same make-up routine. With a dab of foundation here, a wing-liner there, and some bronzer as a finishing touch, it was high time to give my skin a well-deserved break. Red, irritated spots started to form on my cheeks and my eyelashes no longer resembled the long luscious lashes of the past. So I took the fate of my au natural beauty into my own hands and started the longest make-up detox (yes, 27 days) I've had in years. And I recommend it, because my skin feels younger, stronger, and healthier than ever.
Of course, I understand how difficult it is to lock away your favorite make-up and that not all your friends, colleagues, and neighbors need to see your make-up-free face. I get it. That's why that vacation of yours is the perfect time for your detox. Trust me, your skin will thank you. And you will feel more confident when you return with a glowing complexion. Still need some good reasons to do it? Just read on. There are plenty.
Let's be honest: you don't want to be that person who walks along the beach with three layers of make-up, do you? No, right? Exactly. I thought so.
- Are you seriously going to spend a fortune to make sure you have a foundation that matches your tanned skin after a week in the sun? I hope not.
- And please don't use the foundation you use at home on vacation while your skin is a shade darker. A light-colored face above your dark shoulders does not look good. Not at all.
- Swimming without waterproof mascara? I don't think so. And let's be honest: waterproof mascara is just too hard to remove. Both are a no-go.
- Without all those hours in the bathroom, you have much more time to sleep in. And did you know that the beauty sleep is real?
- Without your make-up bag, you have more space in your suitcase for that new vacation wardrobe of yours.
- You get to know your skin well and you immediately see how many days your skin needs to regain that normal, strong, and healthy glow. For me, this takes much longer than expected, so I'm sticking to my detox for a little while longer.
- You learn to love yourself. Because I'm not constantly focused on how to hide the spots on my skin and how to make my eyelashes look longer, I feel better in my own skin (yes, yes, that was intentional).
