FASHION WEEK TALK WITH TESS VAN ZALINGE

Tess is seen as the great talent in the Dutch fashion industry. Last year she blew everyone away during Fashion Week Fashion Week with her refined craftsmanship, handmade prints, and a tribute to Dutch culture. Friday is the day again, and man, I am so looking forward to her show. Time to check in on how the preparations are going.

Tess, how are you doing right now, just before Fashion Week?

“Stressing! We are really working with a very large team to finalize and perfect all the last details. But like every time: it will be fine. Breathe in, breathe out.”

Can you give us a little sneak peek of the show? Come on, come on, come on?

“Let me think, without giving too much away, haha. The entire show will breathe an intimate atmosphere, from the music and choreography to the decor and the collection. Through the collaboration with Royal Delft, artisanal prints have been developed together with the Master Painters.”

Honestly: how many hours have you slept this week?

“Not much! But actually for three weeks now… Well, fashion, you have to sacrifice something, haha.”

The most special thing that has happened in the preparation for the show?

“I have entered into a number of incredibly beautiful collaborations, such as a shoot with Paul Bellaart and hats designs with De Hoedenmaker. That makes my process very fun and inspiring.”

“Hey pssst, buy a new one…”

And just to chat about fashion, which item from your closet do you actually wear the most?

“My Dr. Martens; day and night!”

Who do you swap wardrobes with à la minute?

“With the designer of Acne Studios.”

Who is your fashion icon?

“The Turkish-Cypriot fashion designer Hussein Chalayan. I think his designs are absolutely amazing.”

Which ‘ugly’ fashion trend do you secretly wear anyway?

“Sports socks, but is it very bad to say that I don't find these ‘ugly’?”

This must stay in fashion forever?

“Tattoos, but only beautiful ones, haha.”

Which label should we fall in love with?

“The Row. They really make ridiculously beautiful things!”

If your bag could talk, what would she tell us?

“Hey pssst, buy a new one…”

Who would you like to see in your designs someday?

Carice van Houten and Halina Reijn have been at the top of my list for a while. They would really fit perfectly with my label.”

And do you want to be at the show? That’s possible, because we are giving away 2 tickets. Respond on Facebook why you should be here and who knows…
