FESTIVAL TALK
The artists you absolutely have to see once
I mentioned it last week, Coachella has been on my ‘places I need to go‘-list for years. Not only because it’s a star-studded event and a real celebrity paradise and fashion circus, but I also just want to go for the big names that are performing. The same goes for Lollapalooza which takes place every year in Chicago. Both have such a variety of artists and what I personally find the coolest are all the still relatively unknown indie rock artists that come to perform. For me, maybe not unknown (but they are still the artists I really want to see live one day), but not yet so big abroad that they have world tours, so a ticket and such is a concert ticket for them out of the picture.
But today it’s all about the big names. The artists or genres that you just have to experience live at a festival because honestly: the atmosphere at a concert and that at a festival are really very different.
Florence + The Machine
I mention a ‘Ship to Wreck’, a ‘You’ve Got the Love’ and a ‘Shake It Out’, which you sing along with a ton of other people. Florence Welch is magical on stage. She once admitted that she wrote her best songs while she was drunk or had a hangover because those are the moments when you are ‘lucid’. A bit out of this world, so to speak. And how do you want to feel at a festival? Exactly, on another planet. And you really don’t have to use drugs, you know.
Kings of Leon
On the radio, you might not be able to listen to them anymore, but guys, ‘Sex on Fire’ still gives you all the right feels when you’re standing there with a lot of people and it’s being sung live for you by the übersexy Caleb Followill. Rock at festivals always does well in my opinion and the sound of KoL, the look of the guys, and then your festival buddies; all of that makes my heart burst with joy.
The old rockers
Now that we’re talking about rock music, I’m jealous of everyone who saw The Rolling Stones live at Pinkpop three years ago. But a Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, even a Paul McCartney are very high on my list of artists I must have seen once. Of course, it can also be at a concert, but nothing beats the festival vibe in the summer.
Calvin Harris
Well, this one is obviously easy. The best man is known for his summer hits (like this one), so you really have to experience the king of house hits live.
The pop icons
Theo immediately said that Beyoncé definitely has to be on the list. It’s a bit of a bummer if you do have a ticket for Coachella, because unfortunately, Beyoncé had to cancel due to the buns in her oven. Lady Gaga has come in her place and now you might say that you’re not a mega fan, but admit it: the lady always puts on brilliant shows.
The deceased artists
I mean, a Tupac hologram at Coachella? Totally the sh*t. And if that can be arranged for every artist, may I also sign up Lou Reed and Kurt Cobain? Please and thank you.
If you still don’t know what to wear this summer, how about a cool flare? I’ve already gathered a few for you. here I mentioned it last week, Coachella has been on my ‘places I need to go‘-list for years. Not only because it’s a star-studded event and a real….
