FESTIVAL TALK
The newbies
Well, new new, let's rather call them the ‘underdogs’. The names that are not as big as, for example, Lowlands, Amsterdam Open Air, Pinkpop, and Pitch – nonetheless all worth visiting.
Actually, my goal was to go to Coachella this year. But I say this every year and once again I've been too lazy to fully pursue it. Stupid, I know. But I tell you: next year I'll be shining in Indio, I promise.
But to stay in our own country for a moment; if you’re still not quite sure where YOU are going to shine this summer, here’s some inspiration:
Expedition Festival
Just the name alone tells me this is a place for our Kiek to go (have you heard she made it to theExpedition Robinson casting day?). Okay okay, it may have nothing to do with surviving on a deserted island, but you can definitely dance to live electronic music in the heart of Rotterdam.
Ticket price: €39,-
Festifest
Do you love intimacy and small scale, chilling on tree trunks, waving at boats, and of course a lot of dancing? Then this is where you need to be. Mark June 17 and 18 in your calendar, because the smallest festival in Amsterdam takes place for the fourth time.
Ticket price: €22,-
Oranjebloesem
You probably already knew this one, but for the non-Amsterdammers who want to head to the capital for a fun party on King's Day (okay, Blijburg aan Zee, but that's not too far), you're in the right place. No hassle from day-trippers and a view over the IJmeer. I say: a prrrrima alternative to the standard King's Day parties.
Ticket price: €34,-
Duikboot Festival
Now people often think that the best festivals can be found in Damsko, but don't forget the sunny south. Are you into (deep) house, techno, electronic music with a touch of disco? Then make sure you're in Breda on August 26.
Ticket price: €29.50,-
By The Creek Festival
‘Because life is better by the creek,’ they say in Utrecht. Last year was the very first edition and are you a sucker for house music, r&b, hip hop, and techno? This is where you need to be!
Ticket price: €34.50,-
Alright, I know. This is not even a fraction of what there is to do in our little country this coming summer. If you have more tips for parties that really shouldn't be missed this summer, send an email to elke@amayzine.com. I'll come back with a follow-up soon. Happy Sunday!
