WITH TWO ON (WORLD) TRIP: THIS IS HOW IT STAYS FUN
Already on day 3 of our Los Angeles trip, my bestie and I suddenly found ourselves in a huge argument. Over a ridiculously small thing that we could laugh about the next day, but still: exploring the world together is harder than you think. Irritations while traveling are just like the ) after which suddenly an old dentist bill, deductible statement, or worse: a fine arrives in the mail the next day.: sooner or later they will find you anyway.
The most important thing about a perfect travel companion? You need to be on the same page. Are you planning to travel with your partner or a friend soon? Good for you! How to keep it fun? A few tips:
Be clear about your expectations
A very detailed plan is not necessary if you want to travel spontaneously, but it is important that you also know what the other wants. Maybe you are more in the mood to chill on the beach while he/she wants to seek adventure. Discuss in advance what you both want to do to avoid disappointments.
Keep doing your own thing
So let's say he/she wants a beach day, but you are totally not in the mood for that. Then just don’t do it. At home, you also don’t constantly hover over each other, so it’s important to give each other space. Everyone needs to be alone with their own thoughts sometimes, and the fun part is: when you split up, you can tell each other everything about what you experienced afterwards.
Make agreements about money
If there’s one thing that sucks while traveling, it’s discussions about money. But really. It’s important to make agreements about this. Therefore, think in advance about how much you want to spend per day and try to stick to that.
Don’t take it out on each other when things go wrong
Have you been scammed by a taxi driver? Has he/she been robbed? Did you eat at a terrible restaurant while you didn’t really want to go there? Welcome to the world of traveling! Yes, things go wrong, but that’s part of it, right? Make sure you don’t take your frustration about every little thing out on the other person, because that won’t make the trip any more enjoyable.
Make contact with others
There’s nothing better for the travel dynamic than meeting other people. It’s the perfect change from being just the two of you, you create new conversation topics, and if everything goes wrong, at least you have someone to gossip with. Also important.
Read everything? Then you’re more ready than ever. Bon voyage!
