five wedding dresses for the non-princesses among us
Every now and then I dive into Pinterest to daydream about the way too romantic wedding pictures on my pinboard. In my previous life, I was a wedding planner, remember? And while that may have been a while ago, I still often get asked how many bridezillas I actually had trailing behind me. Thank goodness it never got that far. In fact, I’ve only been able to plan really fun weddings. Now you probably want to know what my favorite wedding ever was. My first job, freshly graduated from the Hotel Management School in Maastricht but already with a basic portion of wedding experience. A souvenir from my internship in Aruba where I held the title of assistant wedding planner for five months. So that first job started with an incredibly enthusiastic email from a young hip couple from Amsterdam. They asked if I would like to help with the preparations for their wedding in yes, Maastricht. It had to be the party of the year and anything but traditional nonsense. So said, so done. It became an insanely beautiful party with even more beautiful people and the most stunning couple ever. The bride, in a humongous tulle skirt with a white leather corset, no cans of Elnett and a hundred pins in her hair but just nice and loose and a pair of killer heels from Jimmy Choo. The groom (what a specimen) in jeans, a shirt, and a blazer. The best part of all: that bride is now a colleague here in the editorial office.
Are you getting married soon, do you want to wear white but not a standard wedding dress? I’ve lined up five dress trends for you. For all the non-princesses among us.

Coachella
Did you and your love meet dancing at ‘A Day at the Park’ and are you not averse to a nice little festival? Then why not just get married in theme? When you see this dress, don’t you want to dance the night away with your friends and family in a field among all the tents? I certainly do. Let the festival season come, Mr. Perfect, I’ll see you there!
90’s
Do you want to get married in a white dress but not go all the way traditional? Go for a wedding dress that you can still wear on a sultry summer evening after your wedding. Combine it with a pair of tough boots and at least you won’t have sore feet at the end of the night.
Meet me on the dancefloor
If you live 364 days a year in a dress or skirt, you might want something very different on your big day. Surprise your guests with a nice suit. Not only incredibly fashionable, but also super comfy on the dance floor in the evening. Team Elke.
Sexy
The strapless dress or the deep-cut neckline are dresses that are indispensable in Alice in Wonderland. But no one tells you that you’ll be tugging at your top all day long, afraid that the dress will eventually hang down to your knees or that the tape on your boobies will come loose. If you want to be sexy but especially comfortable, go for a two-piece dress where just a bit of skin peeks out. And you can later combine that top nicely with a tough pair of jeans.
Comfy & cozy
You don’t understand at all why women put themselves through the trouble of walking around on their big day feeling suffocated in an ultra-tight corset or a way too tight skirt. Nothing fun about that, right? A nice comfy top or even a sweater on an ankle-length skirt and ankle boots. I say: on point.
Daan, if it ever happens, can I wear your dress?
