WHAT TO DO THIS WEEKEND

By Theo Bakana

“It’s Friday and we’re coming together, so text all those names… pass it on, pass it on, send it on, send it on, smsssss.” It might take a bit of digging in your memory, but I’m sure this jam is familiar to the ears of the millennials among us. Does it sound a bit less familiar to you? Then a quick explanation, because this was the weekend anthem in the time of the Nokia 3310.. But before I dive further into the history books, it’s time for the weekend and coincidentally, I know a lot about that. Uncork the bottle, here we go.

Bring out the child in you

Just a little throwback to one of the wisdoms of Pablo Picasso. One of his most famous quotes is: “Every child is an artist. The challenge is to remain an artist when you grow up.” And that’s just how it is, at least, I find it very important to occasionally break out and do something immature (in the best sense of the word). If you also find this important, then we can shake hands this weekend. Frascati 15:15 is organizing Tun Fun for Twentysomethings.. This is an ode to the playful human. So, will you join me to the air castle, into the ball pit, and then get schooled at the shuffleboard? That’s actually one of my hidden talents.

For the real snoopers

Unintentionally, history and antiquity become a bit of the theme for this weekend, because on Saturday or Sunday you might write history with a world discovery for a bargain. You might even find something from prehistory. Where? At the two-day mega flea market that is organized in The Hague. Do you never manage to pick out the gems? Read here then how to do that.

Once you’re in the groove, you can head straight to Komm schon Alter.

For the local lovers

Do you think of a flea market more as an episode of ‘How clean is your house?’ than as an opportunity to score antique classics? Then the Maker Market might be more for you. This market takes place in the Foodhallen and is entirely dedicated to Amsterdam makers. So you’ll only find products that are designed or made in the capital. So come on, go support a local, I would say.

Dancing is allowed

If you’ve managed to get everything local, you can head straight to one of the stalls in De Hallen or take a look at the Canary Club.. Yes, that’s really what it’s called and no, they don’t breed canaries here. You can eat and drink very well here. Once you’re in the groove, you can head straight to Komm schon Alter, I already told you about that last week.. It’s really the coziest 24+ party in the country.

Brakke brunch

If you’re all danced out and tired from all the activities on Sunday, there’s nothing better than a Sunday brunch. And here comes the extra good news: you don’t necessarily have to leave the house for this. Yes, you heard it right. You can now have it delivered right to your home. For example, from TEDS (including mimosa or bloody mary for the worst hangover) or Ms. Crumbs who provides you with red velvet cake to a delicious tuna melt. So come on, delivered to your door by a Deliverootje (yes, that’s what I always call the Deliveroo deliverers). You really don’t need anything else on a Sunday, except a really nice series.

So this will be a weekend full of ‘old meets new’ and to really kick off your weekend, you should watch the clip below. I promise you: success guaranteed.

Until next week!

Send it on, send it on, pass it on, pass it on, SMSSSSSS.
