Great plan: shopping at our Belgian neighbors on Boxing Day
My Boxing Day for about ten years? Shopping in Belgium during the day, enjoying a nice Flemish restaurant in the evening, and at the end of the day it was always a struggle to fit all the shopping bags + excess luggage into the car. Have you actually not made any real plans for tomorrow? I'm telling you: go shoppen. And since most stores here are closed: in these Flemish cities you can go completely wild tomorrow.
Antwerp
For the shoe addicts among us: Lombardenvest is a great plan. In this street, you will find numerous boutiques selling the most insane shoe brands. For the shop till you drop crowd? The largest shopping street Meir of course (most stores are open tomorrow from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM). Is it too cold or is it raining? Then you should definitely go to shopping center Wijnegem. On Boxing Day, all 250 stores (yes, huge there!) are open from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Be sure to enjoy a nice dinner at one of the restaurants there in the evening. Oh, and these are May's favorite spots in Antwerp.
Brussels
In the mood for more than just Zara and H&M? Then Brussels is for you. It's a cool city to shop in if you like more than just mainstream stores. You'll also find tons of vintage and antiques. In the mood for chic? Head to Rue Antoine Sansaert and Avenue Louise. Prefer small boutiques? Then go to Sint-Goriksplein. And don't forget to order a thick, fat waffle in the afternoon and finish the evening with a big pot of mussels, deal?
Ghent
Did you know that Ghent has the largest car-free shopping area in Flanders? So you can stroll around here in a relaxed manner. Most shops are spread over four large shopping streets and some smaller streets around them. If you prefer indoor shopping, Shoppingcenter Gent Zuid is truly a gem with more than 40 stores on three different floors. So come on, what are you waiting for? Start that car tomorrow and go for it. Merry Christmas!
Oh, and if you're not much of a shopping fan: here are seven other things you can do on Boxing Day.
