What to do on Boxing Day
Great chance that you're stuffed to the brim and can't move a step on Boxing Day. That's exactly why you need to step outside for a bit. I'm in the unique situation that my schedule is empty. When I suspected that the page would remain blank, I did everything to keep it that way. It was a once in a lifetime, so worth trying. But then you're free and suddenly you don't know what to do anymore. I did a little digging for you (nice word, right?) on this festive day.
Your options are...
Catch a movie
After those braised pears and carpaccio of an undiscovered fruit with a culinary touch of dressing, you're ready for the real deal. Cola, salty popcorn, and maybe something sweet for dessert. Enter the cinema, where you can sit lazily for a long afternoon in the dark, without anyone saying anything. What to watch? The new Star Wars, Ferdinand, about a big bull with a small heart, or the latest Disney called Coco (in the Frozen category). Wonder with Julia Roberts, you want to see that, but you can also legally watch Johnny Depp for a few hours, then you reserve tickets for Murder on the Orient Express.
On the couch
Are you already shuffling reluctantly to the front door? Maybe it's better to stay home after all. Catching that movie can also be done perfectly from the couch. Here's a list of films from our expert Elke, which are particularly worthy of Boxing Day.
An afternoon of shopping
Yes, hurry to our favorite, the Bijenkorf for example. I can't promise you, but in recent years, the sale really kicks off on this day. Hello Dior, hi Sandro, good afternoon Mulberry. In Antwerp, you can also find a mountain of coziness and open shops, but you'll have to wait a bit longer for the sales there.
Hugging trees
I would stop by the Pulitzer in Amsterdam, where the largest fir tree of the capital stands. And by the way, they also have a lovely toilet (for when you're there) and a particularly cozy bar. I know from experience that you'll linger there for a long time, not that we did this after the last Look of the Year, of course.
Light in the dark
Now that you're in Amsterdam, take the boat and marvel at the Amsterdam Light Festival. You rarely see the canals this beautifully.
Catch a concert
A classical intermezzo or a grand production in the theater. Going to the theater or daydreaming in the Concertgebouw is the best Boxing Day gift for yourself. And for your loved one, your mother, your best friend, or yourself. Also nice.
Dance Christmas away
You've been sitting at the table long enough. Get yourself into something nice, curl your hair, and head to A'DAM Tower. You can hop that Christmas dinner right off your hips at The View, the party you want to go to on Tuesday.
