Have a great time with your gourmet

Your clothes are going to smell, the meat content is sky high and very skinny the food fest is also not exactly with all the sauces that are splashed everywhere. You might be surprised, but in a few nights I will take the attraction down from the attic again. Actually, the tradition has more advantages than disadvantages, because a. there is always something on the table that you like, b. no one is stressed and c. give a child a little pot and they are happy for the next hour.

You understand that I skip the ready-made gourmet platter and the ready-made sauces do not come to my table either. Fresh, flavorful and something for everyone. Haute gourmetting is done like this.

  1. 1. Go to that little French bakery in the city and buy really French baguette, with a spread of good butter and a twist of coarse sea salt. A treat in itself.
  2. Make your own sauces and start with the basics. With a few eggs, good olive oil, a teaspoon of mustard and a squeeze of lemon, you make your own mayonnaise. Add garlic and some parsley and you have a garlic sauce. You've never tasted it this good.
  3. A squeeze of ketchup and a splash of whiskey? Your cocktail sauce is ready.
  4. The kids at the table will be happy with a bowl of pancake batter.
  5. Make sure to have enough raw vegetables. Great for dipping in your homemade sauce, but also delicious in a pan with some truffle oil and coarsely grated parmesan.
  6. Meat? Only of good quality. Better a little less but good than a mountain of hamburgers that taste like nothing.
  7. The night before, marinate some pieces of chicken in a mixture of soy sauce, fresh ginger, a finely chopped red onion, garlic, and some red pepper.
  8. Strips of beef, a bit of truffle mayo, and a handful of arugula? Mmmm.
  9. Why would you buy a tub of budget potato salad when you can make it much tastier yourself? Cut some sweet potato into small cubes and bake them with some olive oil, pepper, and salt in the oven for twenty minutes. Make a sauce from your homemade mayo, some Greek yogurt, and some lemon juice. Add spring onion, a handful of edamame beans, and fresh parsley and you have the tastiest potato salad you've ever had.
  10. Cut some zucchini, eggplant, onion, and bell pepper finely and make your own ratatouille in your pan.
  11. For the fish lover, shrimp always do well. Marinate them in the morning with red curry and they can go straight onto the grill in the evening.
  12. Or a piece of tuna steak, nice with a quick cucumber salad.
  13. Which cucumber? The one you marinated the day before. Cut half-moons from the cucumber and remove the seeds. Make a generous amount of dressing from vinegar, sugar, a red chili, and a bit of salt and place the cucumber in it.
  14. If you're already at it the night before, do the same with a generous amount of tomatoes. Replace the vinegar with balsamic and the red chili with basil.
  15. Nothing wrong with a hamburger, as long as it's made from good meat. Mix minced meat from the butcher with an egg, some breadcrumbs, a splash of ketchup, garlic, pepper, and salt and make small patties. Everyone likes them.
  16. Top your burger with some arugula and parmesan, garlic mayonnaise, grilled vegetables, grilled onions, cheese, and homemade cocktail sauce.

If anyone ever says that gourmetting is vulgar...
