The beauty look that has made a comeback

The modern perm

I always think of my mother, somewhere in the seventies and eighties, who had this too. At least, I only know that from the photos, but that popular Farrah Fawcett hairstyle from way back in the days is making a comeback. In fact, it’s already back. Having a perm is completely allowed again and trendy, and believe me: you want it too.

Think of Carrie Bradshaw's cool curly hair in Sex and the City. It’s allowed again. Or think of Sandy at the end of the movie Grease who suddenly had the most divine curls. The hairstyle that was loved by many in the eighties is back and booming for the new year and even better: you can do it all yourself without needing a hairdresser. The modern variant is all about the fact that you can make your own rules regarding the curl. Are you going for natural, lots of waves, a light wave, or a bit relaxed? It’s all acceptable, with or without the chemical aspects (for which you would need a hairdresser).

‘There are modern techniques where the top is straight and the curl starts around mid-length down to the ends. Another change with the modern perm is that a thicker curling iron can be used to make the curl look looser instead of hard, giving your hairstyle a more natural look,’ says hairstylist George Papanikolas for InStyle. The Farrah Fawcett factor doesn’t have to be intensely present at all.

So among others, Blake Lively (who made a ponytail version of it), Mandy Moore, and Taylor Swift have put their own spin on the look. So if you’re still looking for hair inspiration for the holidays, you can applied for a job go, or you can just go for the modern perm. You’ll definitely be on trend.
