Hi, Bram!
These names get the most likes on dating sites
Dating these days often happens via the phone, and the first thing you usually know about someone in such a situation is their first name. And what their face looks like, yes, but that's beside the point.
Because someone's name turns out to matter quite a bit for their popularity. One boy's name really gets more likes (or swipes to the right, that is) than another. Dating site Pepper has researched this for Editie NL, and the results are telling. We are fond of Roelen and Ruudjes, but the Danny's and Rodneys are a bit less popular in the digital taste.
In any case, English names tend to perform a bit worse than those from our ‘own’ Dutch soil. According to experts, this has everything to do with the association that a certain first name evokes in people, which is often very personal. For example, if you already know a Nick, you immediately have a certain image associated with that name. And the thought that a name triggers in you can be both positive and negative, of course. Is your ex or that annoyingly boring colleague named Ralph? Then you probably prefer to swipe past. Not entirely fair perhaps for the new Ralph in question, but that's how it goes in the game of love.

Research has also been done regarding women. Because whether you receive a lot of hearts back and can really go on a summer date partly depends on your first name.

Eh, well... Now it's almost too coincidental that my own name is at the top of the ‘women's list’. Pinky promise: I really didn't make it myself. However, I do remember the little research – you never know, for potential baby names... You want your offspring to get a bit of nice attention later, right?
Still, I think first names ultimately don't make the difference when it comes to potential flames, because if you see a picture of a man pop up on your screen, it really won't matter much to you what his actual name is. Do you just call him ‘sweetheart‘? Problem solved.
