Need some interior inspiration?
Check out these three interior bibles!
Tons of fans already know: I am working on the interior of our new house in the Amsterdam Houthavens. A project of vital importance, where I could use a bit of help.
And that, dear fans, is of course an understatement.
I mean: if you have ever furnished a brand new house from start to finish, well, then you are really going to applaud the fact that I, despite this monster task, still function at over thirty percent and do not neglect my daily activities. CLAP CLAP CLAP YIEHAA CLAP CLAP – that's you clapping.
CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP – let's keep going!
Anyways, the fact that I am still standing reasonably well is partly thanks to the following three incredibly inspiring, fairly new interior books. Together they form my ideal, inspiring cocktail of what I want with our house and what my boyfriend and children want with our house. I am increasingly able to visualize how my future, award-winning celebrity home will look.
1. Making Memories – interiors created by Stock
Price: 49 euros
A super luxurious book, with absolutely impressive interiors designed by Leonie Hendrikse and Jeroen Stock (from Stock Interiors). Seriously, these are all beautifully designed and furnished houses that you all want to have right now. Houses where style reigns supreme, but where living is especially allowed – as also evident from the stories about the different interiors. A selection from the offerings: a timeless yet excitingly decorated summer house by the Mediterranean Sea, but also a colorful, quirky, and warm family home on a Dutch estate and as a cherry on top the historic villa Boshof – where the famous Dutch writer Godfried Bomans lived for years – which has now been transformed into a modern, elegant almost American dream villa.
And it goes beyond peeking at the neighbors: there are also educational chapters about lighting, fabrics, and wallpaper included in the book. Did you know, for example, that in the world of wallpaper there is also haute couture and prêt-à-porter? Wall coverings are haute couture (because handmade) and paper and vinyl wallpaper is prêt-à-porter. That's what I mean: do you want to know? Anyway, get that book. And oh yes, here’s a shoutout for the beautiful photos taken by Carin Verbruggen and Ferry Drenthem-Soesman.
2. Life Unstyled – by interior stylist Emily Henson
Price: 19.99 euros
At the end of last year, a really nice book was released from the eponymous blog Lifeunstyledblog.com. What I find so cool about this slightly bohemian book is that it is not about ultimate perfect pictures, unlike the stunningly sublime (staged) interior photos that you currently see so often on Instagram. You know them, of course; those photos that make you think: nice for you, but how the heck do I achieve that at home? Well, in this book you find the opposite: you see the mess and cords occasionally just in the picture and even that ugly little cabinet from 2003 is not hidden away. Somehow this book takes the pressure off the kettle for me in the process of furnishing my house. I see that it doesn't all have to be perfect and that you can create a cool, personal interior with the smallest quirky things. Admittedly: at the same time, the book is of course bursting with insane, crazy finds that make you think: YOU CAN, AND I CAN'T, so it's not that low-key either. But who cares.
3. Kaleidoscope, Living in Color & Patterns
Price: 39.90
Such a book where creativity and coolness ooze from, such a book that makes you think: I.want.to.live.in.an.eclectically decorated seventies bungalow with a wooden Escher floor, wall hangings, peacock chairs everywhere and a round glass table with a rattan base. And a super cool outdoor pool with blue and white designer garden chairs! But hey, then you want to live in a palace in Jaipur, and then in a ridiculously chic design house in Milan. That's what I say: tricky matters. Totally unattainable. Completely crazy. At least in my case, because I am moving to a fairly ordinary new build house in the Houthavens. Nothing seventies about it, I can tell you, and we absolutely do not have an outdoor pool. But nonetheless a really cool book. Every time you open it, your eye catches something new. It is also a colorful jewel for your coffee table, so you kill two birds with one stone with this book. Bam!
