MAKE-UP AND THE MAN
This is what he really thinks about it
As soon as pictures need to be taken here for a look of the day, or someone has to leave for an appointment, you will find us first ten minutes in front of the mirror for a make-up touch up. And as soon as new beauty products are sent to the editorial office, we all go sniffing around. Especially if something from Chanel lands on May's desk. Make-up is like toys for us women, and no, that doesn't mean you have to leave the house with three layers on, but even the natural look needs product.
Make-up and the man; that can sometimes be a thing. They often say they find you most beautiful without it, but I have also dated boys who said they were always happy with a red lip or a good eyeliner or smokey eye because then my blue eyes popped. The American magazine Shape did some research on what men really find the most beautiful.
– Actor Adrian Grenier (yes, the one from Entourage) said the following: ’Less is more. You don't want to overdo it. If you don't radiate beauty from within, then there isn't enough make-up in the world to hide that.’
– An American radio presenter (Brian Kelsey) finds women with make-up very beautiful, but not if they use too much. The make-up should emphasize their natural beauty.
– ’Keep it simple and natural,’ says the CEO of the company Performance Flight. ’Make-up is certainly allowed, but then go for the natural look, no one wants to feel like they are kissing a clown.’
The site Stylecaster also did some research where they asked fifty men what they really think about make-up on women. They were shown two photos of female celebrities – one with that natural look and another with a somewhat more glamorous look. Seventy percent of the men indicated they found the first lady sexier.
“57% of the men find red lipstick unattractive on a date”
The funny thing about this is that it actually goes quite differently online. An online dating website studied their users and it turned out that men actually preferred the dressed-up lady instead of the natural beauty. The ladies who wore make-up in their photos received three times as many messages as the ladies without. Other observations were that 57% of the men find red lipstick unattractive on a date, 66% do not find their date necessarily more attractive if she has dark eye make-up on, and 82% of the men find it most beautiful when a woman wears her hair in a natural way.
So ladies, what it really comes down to are three things:
1. Make-up is allowed, but use it to highlight your best features.
2. Nice, all those over the top looks on the catwalk. But let them stay on the catwalk.
3. Don’t go overboard. Glamorous is fine, but don’t plaster your face like the Kardashian family.
