Most people think of this first when they wake up

That moment when the alarm goes off. !#$!#$5!

I am not exactly a morning person. No, actually: I am literally the opposite of a morning person. My boyfriend usually calls me something like ‘little blanket’, ‘mole’, or ‘sleepyhead’ at dawn. He means it affectionately, but I honestly can't open my eyes right away because I can't stand the light. I can't talk (not even to my cat) because I have a mood of -1203 degrees below zero. I. DO. NOT. WANT. TO. GET UP. I. WANT. SLEEPING. That's what I think about when I wake up.

But yes, that's me. And I am the exception to the rule, it turns out. According to scientists, we all think about the same thing worldwide when it's time to get out of bed. And no, we're not talking about sex. Or food. We're actually all quite superficial.

We think about money AND our work. No less than 56 percent of men and 48 percent of women are immediately busy with euros. Yawn. Stretch. Ka-ching. Of course, we also immediately grab our phones when we get up to check who did what in the 7 to 8 hours we were offline. But our morning glory thoughts are above all materialistic. By the way, it doesn't mean that the people who wake up with this are also more successful in their careers. It often has to do with money worries or work stress.

After money and work, we mainly think practically: when we get up, we are also busy with all the errands we still need to run. Yawn. Stretch. Get milk and cheese. Once we've dealt with this, most people think about their health and hygiene. Logical, since this is also the perfect moment to shower, at least for most Dutch people. Our friends and family come in at number 4 on the list. Around 8:00 AM, it's clearly not a popular time to be social.

Anyway. I love running errands, love my work, love my friends and family. But seriously. I can only think about this after lunch. Or... Even better... IN THE EVENING. HA, look. That's when I am myself. Chatting, laughing, having fun, being productive, having energy – woohoo. I am more than a night person. I invented being a night person. I can spend hours eating, lingering at the table, exercising, chatting, cuddling, toasting, celebrating, working, Netflixing, shopping – EVERYTHING. With a smile. Effortlessly. As long as there’s no alarm clock involved.

Is it already 6:00 PM? Please?

FACTS

  • 5 percent of women think about what they are going to eat that day as soon as they wake up.
  • People who work in the art world or in the entertainment business generally get up the latest: around 8:00 AM. This is also because they often work in the evenings.
  • People who have a job as a lawyer or in the legal field sleep the least on average: 6.6 hours per night. People who earn their bread in the finance world get up the earliest on average: at 6:40 AM. I genuinely feel sorry for them.
