Movies that make him happy
The Christopher Nolan edition
Two things: your boy is going to love you so much when you show up with one of these movies AND if you have a mega crush on old boybander Harry Styles, then there is definitely something here that will make you completely happy. The summer weather in the Netherlands is exactly the weather we are used to: nice and wet. Or yeah, nice is not the right word at all. It's just downright terrible. And what do you do when it's pouring outside? You snuggle up against your boy on the couch (and if you don't have one, you do it like I do with your lovers Ben & Jerry) to watch movies. Today in the category ‘What should I watch?’: movies that he is going to be incredibly happy about. But no worries, you will be too, because today it's all about Christopher Nolan, because (almost) everything he touches turns to gold.
Inception
In the mood for a complex thriller tied to the power of dreams? Inception it is. This is one of those movies where you discover something new every time you watch it. And I know Leonardo DiCaprio just won an Oscar for his role in The Revenant, but he is also at his best here. Including my greatest love ever: Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
Interstellar
Watched it again this week. Tip: don't start it when you're tired because it is LONG and you need to be completely clear-headed to follow it all. But holy mother of the film industry, it remains fan-tas-tic. I mean, Matthew McConaughey: brilliant. Anne Hathaway: brilliant. Michael Caine: brilliant. Matt Damon: a jerk in the movie, but he is also brilliant. And then you also have Jessica Chastain, insane good visual effects, and an intriguing storyline. You really don't need a galaxy obsession to enjoy this.
Batman Begins
Ha, shall we quickly forget the very last Batman movie with Ben Affleck? Christian Bale, that's who you want. And especially in combination with Nolan who breathed new life into the comic book hero with Batman Begins.
The Dark Knight
But it's the sequel to Batman Begins that was really a blockbuster. Largely thanks to Heath Ledger's portrayal of The Joker, which was just out of this world creepy (in a good way). Best superhero movie ever? I don’t know about you, but I say yes.
The Dark Knight Rises
To finish off the Batman series, you can also watch The Dark Knight Rises with Tom Hardy as Bane.
Memento
In short: this movie is about a man searching for his wife's murderer, but in the meantime, he suffers from short-term memory loss. And yes, you want to see this because the complexity behind it is what makes Nolan so brilliant.
The Prestige
In the mood for a hefty dose of magic? For The Prestige, Nolan also collaborated with Christian Bale in a story about two rival magicians.
Dunkirk
Okay, for this one you actually have to get off your couch, because it has recently been released in theaters. Dunkirk: the latest baby from Christopher Nolan. It's a story about the evacuation of Allied troops at Dunkirk during World War II. Once again, Nolan shows that he might just be the king of the film world. And oh yes, Harry Styles fans, your beloved boy has a role in this so you will also enjoy it.
Happy date night!
P.S.: Just a little side note about my two greatest loves Ben & Jerry, I hit my worst low last week. As in: too lazy to go out the door and so I ordered not one, but two tubs of B&J via Deliveroo (because with just one you are below the amount you have to spend) and when the delivery guy arrived, I pretended my house was full of friends so he wouldn't know the tubs were just for me. No worries Kiki, you are not the only one with bottom drift.
